Australia needs a Guantanamo Bay
Jun 1st, 2013 at 8:37am

Australia is in need of a Guantanamo Bay style facility. Should Christmas island be turned into such a facility with policy of an incoming Government of turning back boats could see people smugglers resorting to terrorist acts of mass murder in order to complete their objectives.

Maybe you could borrow a Gitmo from Obama - he doesn't want his.

Yes, yes apparently that's the case.
Or rather thats what he told the American people when campaigning.

So interesting in Jan 2011 he signed into law the Defense Authorization Bill which places restrictions on transferring of detainees from Gitmo facility to the US mainland - which prevents the ability to close the facilities......

Me thinks some y'all fell for his play hook, line and sinker.

Maybe you should ask some of the green supports of this site as they themselves have stated crews from people smuggling vessels would set fire and sink any boat turned around by an Abbott Incoming Government, So clearly that is an act of terrorism and should be treated as such and to create a Guantanamo Bay style facility at Christmas Island would be a good deterrent for those wishing to profit from the people smuggling trade.

You kidding aren't you, their visitors are not even padded down on entry.. cant even call it a real prison. We even had a known terrorist who's on a global watch list living it up in minimum security. For Christ sake he is wanted for Murder.

What a laugh. These places are no where near approaching a real prison. And the detainees should consider themsleves lucky.

Detention centres aren't prisons, true. People in jail have been found guilty of a crime

The centres are concentration camps.

No, thats pure nonsense. Detention centres in Australia could be more appropriately likened to holiday camps.

Well this is my point, Our detention centres need to be feared not a bloody holiday camp like they currently are, visitor rights need to be removed and military type security is needed, just do a search of Russian Black Dolphin prison. this is the type of security that is needed.

Correct.

'Concentration camps' in the correct and original meaning of the word.

Not ~ repeat, NOT 'extermination camps'.

Before the war, Dachau was used as a concentration camp in the original meaning of the word. Prisoners came and went after doing their time, or being found innocent of the charges against them.

Nice try, Peter, but this didn't win you a free holiday to Moscow and Lenin's mausoleum this time.
