They are accountants. They are paid market rate and they are solid professionals.
There is no need for a union.

They do alright. 65k base, 10% bonus. They are only 25 years old. They do fine without a union.

What.  You mean that they are at that age, where they could go off on maternity leave?.  Goodness me Andrei, we can have that, can we?.  That would really upset your company's apple cart, wouldn't it?.     Huh

It's unlikely. Neither of the two I am thinking of have boyfriends...

But anyway, I am fine for maternity leave. We have a corp policy where we'll pay 12 weeks of that salary.

Like I said I am all for good workers being rewarded.

In our entity in Australia we were told we have to hand out a sheet listing all their rights to new employees and we would be fined A$30,000 per breach per employee if we failed to do so.

And?

As an employer you're required to inform your employees of their legal rights.

I'm sorry, what's the problem?   Undecided

Because its fricken big Government bullying of business.

One of them says they have maximum work hours and they can demand reasonable work hours on returning to work from maternity.
How does that look to a new young employee??

It's not bullying in any shape or form.

I know exactly what the FW Information Sheet contains: it's an excellent document.

Your opposition to its contents makes me think you might not exactly be an ideal employer.

It created a bit of a storm with us when the local MD brought it to our attention.

We already are suspicious of Australia with its superannuation, long annual leave, long service leave, payroll tax etc.

This created more suspicion on the Government not being pro business.

It's a terrible document.

Poor employer????

We are one of the 10 biggest companies in the world!!!

Seems my assessment of your company as a less than ideal employer was correct.

It's not actually correct at all.
But we have a headcount cost in excess of what Australian companies have as a revenue figure and as a US listed entity we need to be mindful that we are responsibly apportioning our resources where it makes most sense.

The fact we pay Australian workers 25% more than we do our North American workers hasn't escaped people's notice.

Had it not been for the natural gas deposits, I would suggest we'd have followed Ford out the door.

Most of my area covers developed countries, but my understanding is that our workers in India are paid 8 times their cost of living.....

Hadn't read it, but just did.

You are correct, Greg. Nothing there resembling bullying. And nothing that any
reasonable employer could legitimately regard as onerous or 'bullying'.

Andrei and his attitudes are one reason I support more stringent regulation of business.
