States to Gillard/Garrett: don't use our kids!!!
Jun 12th, 2013 at 10:22am

Very embarrassing moment last night for both Gillard and Garrett, being locked out of separate events at state schools that were to promote the federal governments' Gonski policy by using school children as props for the ALP. Thankfully, the state governments of WA & QLD denied access and Gillards' appearance on a Ben Elton show had to be scrapped.

Isn't there laws preventing political parties from campaigning on school grounds? The ALP is considering legal action. Considering the schools are under state, not federal, control I wish them luck with that fruitless endeavour!

Thus guaranteeing more mental giants such as yourself.

Yep, that's a winner.

Private schools in Victoria would receive an extra $644 million in state and federal funding over six years if Victoria signs up to the education reforms, according to long-awaited figures released by Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

Catholic and independent schools will receive the federal share of this extra money from next year even if Victoria does not sign up to the plan, although state schools, which educate the majority of disadvantaged students, would miss out if Premier Denis Napthine holds out.

I 100% support either party doing such, schools are not meant for party propaganda purposes or backdrops for political campaigns.

Its another non-issue, If gillard does not like this then the idiot should have thought twice about calling the longest election campaign.

There are plenty of halls available for such.

When u use schools for blatant political campaigning then you have crossed a line. I applaud WA and QLD for banning them. Given the blatant and vicious personal attacks on Newman by anna Bligh then it makes even more sense.

Funny you had no issue with a liberal member being present with every new flagpole, didn't they have to have a plaque as well???

Not just on the day but blatant propaganda well after the ceremony ended.

As usual, Hypocrisy thy name is liberal.

MORE than 1000 schools are waiting for the promised reimbursement of the cost of installing flagpoles because they have not invited a Government MP to an opening ceremony.

Documents obtained by the Seven Network under freedom of information legislation show the federal Minister for Education, Julie Bishop, was warned by officials in March that the funding delays were damaging the credibility of the flagpole funding.

Since 2004 schools have been required to install a working flagpole and then claim up to $1500 back from the Government. But they are reimbursed only if they publicise the Government's funding of the flagpole.

Schools must stage an opening ceremony and invite a government representative. They must also install a plaque near the flagpole acknowledging that it was a gift from the Government and to publicise the initiative in their newsletter or in a letter to parents.

The documents show that by March 3098 schools had applied for funds. But 1105 had not been paid because they had not provided a date for meeting the recognition requirements, or because of problems with GST paperwork.

Ms Bishop has accepted recommendations to relax the requirements. From June 1 schools must only submit an invoice to be paid.

they weren't attacking the Opposition from the school platform however, were they? and therein is the difference.

TO be fair, I am uncomfortable with this but at the same time, labor has been appalling with the personal attacks in QLD and so if this is pay-back then it is hard to complain.

Schools should NOT be used for politicking. and it most certainly should not be used for bagging your opponents.

Labor has lowered the level of behaviour significantly in recent years and they are to blame for it. It will take a generation of better behaved statesmen for it to rise again. Gillard has led the way in pitiful behaviour and Anna Bligh joined in.

Please..... just stop it...... really

Defense spending is announced in front of an Army or Navy base

Hospital funding is announced in some ward of a hospital

Small business initiatives are announced on some main street of a town with as many cake shops etc as can be crammed into the wide angle.

Gonski is a complete overhaul of school funding & as the article I posted points out leaves public schools millions out of pocket if they aren't signed up.
The current models not working this addresses the problems, or are you like teaspoon & think education is an optional extra?
If the Liberal state governments have legitimate concerns they better start speaking up, because all I'm seeing is the exact thing your bitching about,
cheap,dirty,partisan politics

but at an army base they don't spend their time bagging the other lot. They don't even do it generally in hospitals. but labor HAVE been doing it in schools. and that is not on.

Look, we all agree pollies behaviour is bad but Gillard is driving the standards lower by daily coming up with new grubby comments or behaviours. blame where blame is due...

GONSKI is just more money and little else on the presumption that more money will solve the problems of public schools despite evidence that money is not the problem. low fee private schools get the same effective funding per student (or less) than public shools but with better outcomes thus debunking the idea that money is the problem. it isn't.
