The Red Barren is desperate, desperate I tells ya, for a lift and thinks a repeat of the misogyny rubbish is just the thing to do it and it probably sounded like a good idea to John McTernan (how much are they paying this dill?) to generate some shrill outrage.

But like everything else that passionfingers touches, it has buggered up.

Quote:
IF Julia Gillard was hoping the 'menu-gate' scandal might win her back some support after her 'men in blue ties' attack on the Coalition she'll be sorely disappointed in the reaction on social media.

The Prime Minister's sentiment rating on Twitter plummeted after her speech on Tuesday at the launch of Women for Gillard, where she claimed a return to a Coalition Government would banish female voices from political debate and make abortion "a political plaything' of men.

Analysis of sentiment by social media monitoring service Topsy shows that at lunch time on Tuesday Ms Gillard's rating was generally positive, as she fought off the latest round of leadership speculation, but quickly dropped into negative territory once her speech, which had been closed to the media, was reported.
...
Her rating has stayed well in negative territory since, even after the publication yesterday of a highly-offensive menu from a fundraiser for Coalition candidate Mal Brough held in March.
...

Listened this morning to the Herald Sun editor on the radio comment on this story.

"We ran this story online through the day so gave it a fair bit of coverage. However later in the day, the restaurant owner cleared up the story and stated it was an in-house joke that had not been seen by the Liberal National members for the dinner so it was a bit of something out of nothing really.

Still worth us reporting but obviously in light of the explanation, it warrants nothing more than about the page 9 which is where we have it in the hardcopy editions"

Damon Johnston, Editor (Speaking on Triple M radio)

Like I said yesterday. Something out of nothing because the Labor Party are doing so badly in the polls.

Oh dear.

The problem is people rarely understand what they want and how to get it.  No time before gillard have as many women held senior, ministey, roles in government.  1 in 3 ministers are women.  So much for equality in representation when tony gets in and that plummets to only 6 out of 32 ministers being women.  Another area we are going backwards in and her speech of the man in blue tie being back seems to be quite accurate.  But all those displeased at the fact our company boards and governments don't see equal representation between men and women think that it was a bad speech?  Watch, in 2 years they'll be once again crying about it , because they didn't realize their opportunity.

Bit of a no-brainer really, isn't it.

I love how grendel went straight for it.

This goes out to you grendel:

You're delightful.

Yes amazing how brough waits till midday, apologises but what didn't talk to his friend?  His friend only decided to release a statement when it was convenient?  Quite shotty politics from brough to say the least.

A rusted-on's acceptance of explanation.

Brough: "I didn't do it."
Grendal: "Oh, ok, well I'm satisfied. dumdedumdedumdedum."

You are correct in the sense that this is going nowhere in a national context.  But it sure is going somewhere in his Electorate, where people (especially LNP Members in the Fisher Sub-Branch) are just adding this scandal to a growing list involving Brough.  This is a rising tide, and it will not take much from here for the grass roots within his own Branch to tap him on the shoulder.

The Libs will probably just endorse Slippery Pete for the seat again - just as they have done for the past decade.

He is their sort of guy.

Eye witness accounts can be ignored by Liberal voters remember.

Just like they ignored the eyewitness that saw Tony throw a punch towards a woman's head back in the day.

Time to call in Margie to remind us Tony is lovely and stop the boats.

Well, I have been saying that I hoped staff would come out and state what they saw.  Now, one has, and Brough, Richards are clearly lying (if she is being truthfull.)

Her story has the ring of truth to it.  Why would anyone get a Menu professionally prepared....just as a joke to hang on the kitchen wall?

Nah, lies everywhere.
