The menu which compared Julia Gillard's body to a cooked quail has been labelled an “in-house” joke by the owner of the Brisbane restaurant which hosted a Liberal party fundraiser.

Richards & Richards owner Joe Richards has claimed responsibility for the menu, which he said was never distributed on tables at the fundraiser.

The Queensland LNP executive released on Wednesday night a letter Mr Richards wrote to Liberal Mal Brough in which he apologised for the menu.

“I I have been following the rubbish that has been on the news today,” Mr Richard's writes.  “I would like to confirm what actually happened: there were never any menus distributed on the tables or in the restaurant.

“I created a mock menu myself as a light-hearted joke, however as I said I never produced them for public distribution.

“Unfortunately a staff member saw the mock menu, and unbeknownst to myself, posted it on their facebook. It now appears that a third party for political reasons has distributed it, yet I can reassure you that no such menu was distributed on the night.

“As you know no one at the dinner was privy to such a menu, and it is so unfortunate that an in-house joke between myself and my son has caused you great problems and embarrassment.”

A LNP spokesman said the letter was released with Mr Richard's permission and was written after Mr Richard saw the menu story on the evening news.

“He sent it after seeing the story tonight,” the spokesman said.  Fairfax Media has attempted to contact Mr Richards.

The LNP spokesman said a further statement from Mr Richards was expected to be released later Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning to further “clarify” the matter.

The person who leaked the menu on twitter reportedly found it on the Facebook page belonging to a chef from the restaurant.

No links allowed for me, so google SMH.

The moment the first Liberal Party member picked up the menu, read it, and then didn't immediately stand up and collect every other menu and throw them in the bin, it was authorised by the Liberal Party.

Opposition on back foot in sexism row after menu's crude, sexist attacks on Julia Gillard's body

The Opposition has been forced on to the back foot in the row over sexism in politics, after a Liberal Party fundraising menu which contained crude references to Prime Minister Julia Gillard's breasts, thighs and genitalia emerged online.

The menu was used at a dinner for about 20 people hosted by former Howard government minister and now Coalition candidate Mal Brough in Brisbane on March 28. Opposition Treasury spokesman Joe Hockey was the guest of honour.

It featured a dish called "Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail - Small Breasts, Huge Thighs & A Big Red Box".

Mr Brough has apologised and says the menu was written by a non-party member who thought it would be "humorous" but is now "deeply apologetic".

The Liberal National Party has released a statement saying the "content of the menu card was absolutely unacceptable and has no place at any LNP event."
Video: Abbott condemns menu which mocked Gillard's body (ABC News)

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has also condemned it, but says it should "absolutely not" cast doubt on Mr Brough's pre-selection for the Sunshine Coast seat of Fisher.

"I think we should all be bigger and better than that; whether it's a tacky, scatological menu out the front of a Liberal Party event, whether it's squalid jokes told at union conference dinners with ministers present," the Opposition Leader said.

"Whatever it is, I think we should be better than that. I think we should be appealing to every Australian's best self as we go into this election."

I'm sorry... are you unaware that people have staff and organisations have staff and putting together events requires staff all of whom probably have different duties.
That it is indeed probable that Brough had been busy doing all sorts of things more important than overseeing the printing of a menu.that someone outside the LNP came up with it thinking it was funny and it may even have been totally overlooked in the process.

He was busy trying to set up another MP with fake charges. But thats no excuse ... he should have made the time.

Yes - there were 3 witlessness to him throwing a punch at a woman's head.  Denying it does not make it go away

Go back and look through it and see how many are basing on 'what they heard from a close distance away'.

3 witnesses.

Witness #1.  A former student who has remained anonymous but is was willing to sign a stat dec if necessary:
'I saw Abbott throw a punch at Barbara Ramjan but didn't see it land … When next I saw her, she was in an extremely shocked condition, leaning against the wall … I thought he had actually struck her, but I can see that was simply my assumptiom.

Witness #2. Sydney Barrister David Patch who was a witness to the incident, although he did not actually see the punch

She was very shaken, scared and angry. She told me that Abbott had come up to her, put his face in her face, and punched the wall on either side of her head. So, I am a witness.

and of course,

Witness #3. Ms Ramjan - who saw the punch very clearly:
He came up to within an inch of my nose and punched the wall on either side of my head.” She recalls with cold disdain: “It was done to intimidate.”

By the way, can I suggest you also go away and look up the difference of being charged and being guilty.
Particularly when someone has been completely exonerated by a Magistrate who noted the 'huge conflict in the prosecution case'.

By the way, can I suggest you also go away and look up what "completely exonerated" means.

Tony was not "completely exonerated" by a Magistrate.  The charge was dismissed after the magistrate complained of ''enormous conflict'' between the prosecution and defence evidence.  That is not "completely exonerated".  The accusation was never tested.

And what was the accusation?
"She said: 'I had just commenced speaking when I felt a hand between my legs on my lower buttocks. I was wearing jeans. I jumped back, turned around, and saw Tony Abbott laughing about two feet away. The people in the audience began laughing and jeering', Miss Wilson said."
Tony says he  "leaned forward and tapped her on the back, about the level of her jeans belt".

Maybe Tony should have just kept his hands to himself.  THen all these nasty women wouldn't be making nasty allegations about him punching them and groping them!!!  Poor poor Tony!!!
I guess the dumb bitches just made it all up huh?!?!  Chick are like that aten't they  Should just stick to their ironing, hey Tony:

What the housewives of Australia need to understand as they do the ironing ....

Quoting a put-up job charge - when he was cleared - particularly one 30 years old, makes you look bitter and nasty.

Blindly defending a bloke with a long history of being a sexist pig makes you look like you share his values.

Bad look.  Do you also agree with this:

‘I think it would be folly to expect that women will ever dominate or even approach equal representation in a large number of areas simply because their aptitudes, abilities and interests are different for physiological reasons’

Now - go away and try to get things right before you post again.
Telling silly lies like you have done in order to protect sexism is pretty poor.

If this is correct it looks like my assumptions may not have been well founded - Still some questions remain.

Mr Brough has apologised and says the menu was written by a non-party member who thought it would be "humorous" but is now "deeply apologetic".

Mal talking like he knew what happened???

Nobody at the function has come forward saying it wasn't the menu?

Be interesting to see the full story come out, is this the truth now???

Or is this a good liberal mate taking the heat???

It's amazing , all the same morons who are on here crying that Gillard tries to play the sexism card then try to defend this ...  Shocked Shocked Cheesy Cheesy

it doesn't matter if it was the menu, written up as a joke, or some blokes order at the local brothel. They should have condemned it for the slime that it is.

By the way, if I was the owner of a restaurant with a customer, with a virtual endless pitt as far as money goes (LNP) and they used my restaurant, I'd would own up to anything to ensure they kept coming back.
