As usual, the double standard persists. It's okay for Gillard to be insulting, rude and offensive to men in her spec last night that was at a campaign rally called 'Women for Gillard's. Just imagine of it had been the reverse - a campaign called 'Men for Abbott, and Abbott had made similar comments? Oh what the outcry and moral high round would be from those of the left.

Yes part of that is true, but it's what we have to live with given the history.  Not saying I support the fact that Tony would be called a sexist if he held a meeting of all men, but I'm saying reality is, given the history that's where we are as a western society. But that has nothing to do with what i'm talking about. What I'm asking is for longie (or you if you really want to have a go) to explain how her comments re: Tony don't have merit given Tony's gaffes of the past, and his own developed maternity leave policY? not to mention his front bench and the senior positions on the front bench, which she was referring to, and now this menu fiasco.  None of what you said excuses the fact that they've in a way have proven her right. ANd it definitely doesn't excuse the fact that Hockey and Brough are both despicable men, that us other men should be condemning as much as possible (unless we agree with the comments, of course).

It's funny how we didn't see the same moral outcry from those of the left when a disgusting 'joke' was made about Peta Credlin,
we did, stop lying
at an event attended by several Labor MPs about half of which did not leave after the 'joke' was made.
They didn't laugh, pretend it didn't exist, and wait till it was headlines to show their disapproval.
Nor did we see it when a Labor backbencher called Julie Bishop a narcissistic bimbo.
Narcissistic, yes. Bimbo? no.

1. What exact comments do you mean, and what of the PPL?

2. I don't care about history. I care about the here and now. Women either want equaliy or superioroty. A lot of so-called feminists clearly want the latter, not the former.

3. So what if there are a limites number of women on the front bench? I couldn't care whether they're all men, all women or a 50-50 split. Right person for the right job.

4. No Labor MP spoke about the event until after it had happened. To their credit, some of them did leave but many
didn't leave, as well.

5. How do you know at Brought and Hockey laughed?

6. Moreover, how do you in any way link this to Abbott?

7. Your weak comment about Bishop pretty much proves my point.

1. What exact comments do you mean, and what of the PPL?
Again, read the comments before. Enough trying to rehash over and over. Ludicrous.

2. I don't care about history. I care about the here and now. Women either want equaliy or superioroty. A lot of so-called feminists clearly want the latter, not the former.
So it's okay in your opinion to have white only TV stations? As an example?

3. So what if there are a limites number of women on the front bench? I couldn't care whether they're all men, all women or a 50-50 split. Right person for the right job.
Done and dusted. I used to agree, but the issue is a lot more complex then the simple "most experienced" because the culture of the organisation is involved in it, and within the culture it could very well be that some men succeed better than women.

4. No Labor MP spoke about the event until after it had happened. To their credit, some of them did leave but many
didn't leave, as well.
They didn't wait for it to be broken in the news.

5. How do you know at Brought and Hockey laughed?
More than likely given they are now lying about not seeing it. It's an assumption, make what you will of it.  But if they didn't appreciate it then why hide in the first place?

6. Moreover, how do you in any way link this to Abbott?
Because Tony has as usual done the under the rug treatement. And I'm not linking THIS particular issue to Tony, so much so as the potential culture of sexism within the Liberal Party to the likes of Tony.

7. Your weak comment about Bishop pretty much proves my point
That being?

Dumb, Dumber and Dumberer. With all due reverence to the classic movie Dumb and Dumber (don’t watch the sequel!) this movie could star Julia Gillard if there was to ever be the political remake of it.
Gillard’s political strategy skills have always been pretty average at best with the occasional foray into the poor category, but 2013 has shown us the New Julia or the Real Julia or whoever she is supposed to be today.  And this Julia is a downright terrible political tactician. Well behind in the polls at the start of this year, we saw the Government going after media with a set of draconian and obviously punitive legislation. You desperately need the media on board to help power your come-back so what is the obvious solution?  Punish them of course. Dumb.

So you have a leadership contender? Not really news since every party always has a few people around the periphery checking out the top job. Leadership fights are par for the course and can be unsettling to any party. So what do you do if you are the Labor Party? You take your fight to the airwaves and the streets and publically vilify the former PM and frankly, the only current Labor MP with a popularity above zero and the one-time holder of the most popular PM title ever.  Read that again. EVER! Dumber. But at least they are preparing for round three of the “let’s vent our collective spleen in public” game!

It would be hard to top such amateurish and frankly, infantile behaviour but our not-so-beloved PM has managed to pull out a ‘dumberer’. Against such worthy competition for dumbest stunt ever, Gillard decided to attack men. Not just content with maligning Tony Abbott with sexism charges and misogyny claims last year, this time she went after men – all men.  Pure political genius – if you were planning to lose by the biggest margin possible. If there was any doubt before that Gillard was the real sexist on the front bench then there is no more. The claim of misandry (men hating) has a lot of evidence and more is mounting.  Julia Gillard hates men. Pure and simple and increasingly difficult to deny.  So now we can scratch another couple percent of Labor’s woeful polls.
All throughout her term as PM Gillard has demonstrated a poor understanding of political strategy but instead of learning her craft and honing her skills as Tony Abbot has, she has gotten more arrogant and at the same time, much worse at her job. While Abbott has been improving his public performances and even developing some late-run skills in diplomacy and statesmanship, Gillard has been showing just what a disaster she has been as Prime Minister.

The gaffe-prone PM has claimed that the Coalition will get rid of women in parliament which is an offensive claim as well as manifestly stupid. But there is one thing Gillard has done for the future of women in parliament. She has set their cause back a generation. In the years after Gillard, women will be put off from entering politics because the big jobs will appear to be denied them and that will be because the experience of a woman PM was such a disaster that no party will want to risk it again for a long, long time. Julia Gillard is arguably the worst PM in history vying for the title from Billy MacMahon having already eclipsed Gough Whitlam’s efforts.

I don’t know what the next word after Dumb, Dumber and Dumberer is. Unfortunately, it appears I better go to work thinking one up. I will obviously need it.

Stay tune for the next act in “How I destroyed the ALP without really trying...”

Glad to see you now understand the subjective power of the word 'infantile'.  Smiley

the only response that would have gained u credit would be to agree that Gillard's speech was appalling. to seek to dismiss it makes you look silly. a stupid menu which btw was NOT sexist; it was just offensive and rude. No comment on the comments about RUdd in the menu? of course not. poor, precious Gillard must by virtue of being a women be granted a completely different set of standards than men.

the response to the menu further confirms that Labor is inherently sexist as well as grossly incompetent.

I think you're completely lost with regard to what is sexist and what isn't.  The fact that you disregard, and claim that Gillard's speech was appalling just shows that you're no better than Brough, Hockey and their master Tony.  Despicable. Rather than argue the points I make you simply revert back to your own rubbish - typical, typical, typical.   Interesting how Rudd's comments are about his mentality, and Gillard's about her physique and yet you think it isn't sexist.  Interesting that you don't wish to talk of Tony's gaffes or his own policy that HE instrumented, and instead want to simply call anyone calling him out "appalling."  Interesting that we have these types of "men" within the Liberal Party, who find it humerous to comment on a woman as if she were some peice of consumerist art and you stick with, "oh but her speech calling it out is appalling."  You are despicable. Disgusting that you find "nothing wrong with that." And instead find something wrong with "men in blue ties."  Yes. I get it, you're the dumberer.  Got it.

do u generally think that Gillard is not dismissive of men in a manner that is rather disturbing? On budget night she filled EVERY SEAT behind Swan with women. and on it goes. It would be pretty hard to fairly define her speech as anything less than sexist. It was a full-on assault on men and filled with lies (not surprising) and offensive nonsense.

as a man with a sense of justice and equity you should be appalled by this women who clearly does not share such values.

Look at you try to fill in the dots, how amusing. It wasn't a full on assault on men. It was an assault on Tony Abbott and his party. And once again, if you were to actually debate the merits of this assault perhaps it would be interesting. But otherwise you can continue to feel your outrage with hot air.

it was now an assault on all men and is viewed as such by most. it was not so much outrageous and offensive as it was plain PITIFUL.  just another nail in the coffin for the ALP that continues with the worst PM in its history.

Male Prime Minister. Male Deputy Prime Minister. Male Treasurer. Male Education Minister. Male Health Minister. Female Foreign Affairs Minister. Male Immigration Minister. Male Defence Minister. Male Leader of the Senate. Male Human Services Minister. Male Attorney General. Male Climate Change Minister. Male, and slightly off-the-mark, Regional Development Minister. Male Communications Minister. Female Innovation, Industry and Science Minister.

That's Tony's first ministry.

It wasn't an attack on all men. It was an attack on the potential Liberal government.
But continue making those dots, and at the same time dismissing the vagina being called a "big red box."  I suppose mussel was so horrible that we don't care anymore about the others?

You want me to be outraged well I am just not at this pathetic attempt to smear her again.

Yes I admit just like AL yesterday I just shook my head, but today after being outed again somehow it doesn't matter if it a liberal, I seem to remember a very different response when a VERBAL joke was made about Abbott & his CoS, calls on why government ministers hadn't walked, a very somber looking Hockey wagging his finger, yet this is in print, on the table hardly something they didn't know was there or coming, unlike a verbal joke.

The deflection I have seen, the venom I have heard, the personal insults, the use of personal grief as some sort of weapon sickens me Angry, and makes me wonder what we are becoming.

You and the press made plenty of hay at the time, go back and goggle the articles.
As for your deflection of numbers, how many exactly are required for a comment to become offensive ?

something is offensive even if it is not seen by another person. However, the effect of that offense IS relative to how many saw it.

And now we find that the menu wasn't even at the event which his why nobody recalled it. A bit hard to be a major point of offense when it wasn't shown to anyone.

as a man with a sense of justice and equity you should be appalled by this women who clearly does not share such values.

I am appalled & have been appalled at the treatment our PM has received since taking office.

The deflection I have seen, the venom I have heard, the personal insults, the use of personal grief as some sort of weapon sickens me Angry, and makes me wonder what we are becoming.

it was a PRIVATE function with a huge number in attendance: 20.

when we are privy to the private functions of the ALP then go ahead. And in the meantime the comments at the Union COnference last time were distasteful and disgraceful yet the furore was..

missing. as usual

Then how did Brough know the details at Noon yesterday when the restaurant owner & apparent authour of the menu didn't contact him until yesterday evening after seeing the news?

oh give it up! it was a bloody menu!  a menu not even given out to anyone. and yes it was dumb stupid and offensive but hardly the stuff of scandal.

it is this faux outrage that so typifies a govt in absolute crisis and paralysis. a good govt would brush this off as the nonsense it is. Instead, it is the story of the day because let's face it, what is there the govt can talk about that is good?

PERSPECTIVE PEOPLE.

I think maybe I will find a few choice anti-Abbott comments from on here and pass it on to the media...  Sound fair to you?

What I will miss most if phony Tony becomes PM is the bitterness of being losers that the conga line of nuf nufs display on a daily basis. I can't wait to see them trying to defend the women basher when he stuffs up time and time again. Though I expect the song book will read, " Gillard was worse" . Problem is the intellectually bereft will actually believe it.

No, I'm holding the Liberal Party to the standards of behaviour & honesty they demand of others.

Peter Slipper sent a private text to 1 other person(who then went to social media, sound familiar?) describing a women's vagina & had to resign, what's the difference?
