I've had the pleasure of meeting Julie Bishop in the last year at an Australian-American Chamber of Commerce event that she guest speaker'd along with Josh Frydenberg.

She was informative about the oil and gas industry, she understood the concerns of industry and the pressure we are under on costs and spoke really well of easing the burdens we face on regulation redtape and lack of grant fundings.

I was nothing other than impressed with her.

She also looked immaculate for 7am.

So mantra, your comments really don't match the person I met at all.

Yes I'm sure she does make a good first impression when she's in the public arena Andrei, but you're fortunate you don't see her splattered all over our media spitting and snarling. She has lost her dignity, but that's no surprise. She still hasn't quite recovered from her stint under the Howard government where she was constantly under a gag order. Howard kept a tight leash on his ministers and you can liken them now to guard dogs taken off their leashes and given freedom for the first time.

Abbott might have to resort to doing the same if she can't control herself, although that might be a problem because who will control Abbott?

so now we find that the menu was made by a non-liberal member and not even given out at the event?? until yesterday it had been seen by almost no one?

what a serious scandal... Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

No as outlined by the above timeline of actual statements, we see the Liberals firstly denigrating the PM in a sexual way(which goes to my outrage comments yesterday), then LYING to cover it up.

The blatant LYING is the serious scandal, especially seeing the onus put on HONESTY by the current Opp Leader.

And to top it off supposedly intelligent principled posters such as yourself want to just sweep it under the carpet Angry

the story is that the menu was made by one man and NOT distributed at the event. the only way we even know of its existence is that someone took a photo of it in a back room. So... are you going to pretend that there are rude and insulting documents and comments made about both sides by a variety of people around the country that are equally insulting or worse?

IM struggling to see the implication that the Libs were behind it since it is manifestly obvious that they didn't even see it.

Think about some of the obscene things said on ozpolitic about abbott or Gillard or a host of people. does that make the media??  and it is certainly seen by more people than this menu was before someone publicised it.

Should I copy some of Skippy's comments and send them into the daily telegraph?  he is more vile than this menu.

PERSPECTIVE PEOPLE.

and by contrast Gillard expresses her hatred of all men and her blatant sexism and you say...

very little.

Yeah thanks for totally ignoring the fact that I said the scandal was the lying & arse covering.

Lets get back to Gillard accusing someone of something like Abbott & his mates attitude to women, with NO apparent evidence.

because you say so?  the evidence support the explanation. NO ONE at the event has said they ever saw it.

u r better than this.

I see why you mainly copy and paste other peoples comments. your grammar, spelling and basic sentence construction is sub-standard.

No yesterdays line was they couldn't remember it, not they didn't see it.

In fact Brough apoligised for something he now apparently knew nothing about

I love how righties are so willing to put side their self proclaimed honesty and integrity for the sake of the cause.

They will still splutter with outrage whenever their veracity is questioned, but have too little decency to do the right thing over even minor issues like this.

seriously??? that is your argument?  if they had seen it they WOULD have remembered it. The only credible explanation is that they hadn't seen it.

you are better than to be sucked into the vortex of pro-labor idiocy that spends a couple days debating a stupid menu that no one saw while the economy slides down the toilet. it is in fact the ultimate commentary on Labor losing the plot that sexism and a stupid menu occupy their days - neither of which are a problem to anyone at all.

That's rubbish Mozz.
No one in their right mind LW or otherwise would keep on about this menu thing now the facts are out.  That is rusted-on denial or the way of Conspiranuts.

and what is 'the right thing'. every lib supporter on here has acknowledged that the menu was offensive. But we also acknowledge that nobody at the Lib even even saw it thus making this nothing more than some nobody making a crude joke and it being posted online. How, does this even rate more than a 30 second comment?

mantra is a LW prog hater, Andrei... she still obsesses over Howard and what she thinks of Abbott is largely unrepeatable.  Don't expect logic or rationality there.

i can provide quotes.  Grin

From the source in the Opening Post:

Quote:
‘Mr Brough says the menu was drawn up by a non-party member who thought it would be “humorous” and “didn’t mean any harm by it,” but is now “deeply apologetic”.’

So. at midday, Brough was aware that the menu had been drawn up by a non-party member, who was now deeply apologetic.

But wait … how could Brough have known this, if Richards didn’t contact him until later in the day?

Remember, Richards didn’t write his letter to Brough until after seeing the story on the evening news.

And in his letter, which was subsequently distributed by the LNP, he stated the following:

As you know no one at the dinner was privy to such a menu, and it is so unfortunate that an in-house joke between myself and my son has caused you great problems and embarrassment.

How, then, could Brough have known that Richards ‒ a non-party member ‒ was responsible for the menu when the ABC article was published at midday?

It doesn’t add up.

Brough made statements, reported at midday, containing details that he couldn’t have known until later in the day ― if he and Richards are to be believed.

Unless it is just a flimsy fabrication to protect a highly protected candidate.

I’ll let you be the judge of that.

The story does not stack up.  Someone is lying.

Yes I am & I'm also better than to blindly accept a hastily cobbled together excuse as the gospel truth.
Can I ask the difference between this & Slipper?
Quite a few are pointing out the similarities, private joke between 2 people released to the media.
Where are your posts urging the opposition to get on with the job of holding the government to account instead of focusing on a private vulgar joke?

I'm better, I thought you were too.
