WTF difference does it make to them when the election is held?  Please explain, melielongtime.

if you were ever in business esp small business you would know that everytime an election is called, business slows down. Every time.  I dont know why, but that doesnt stop it from being true.

Well, I guess owning a legal practice is being in 'small business,' and I'm certain that owning and operating Cabs also is in 'small business.'  All I've ever seen is the usual seasonal cycles.

If that's the major discussion point I'd suggest that they're not very good business people.

The election will be held by November 30 this year.

There's no uncertainty about that.

you've not been anywhere near business have you?  Its not about being good or bad business but elections cause most people top be hesitant in spending esp on big ticket items and so a lot of business across the board note a very obvious drop-off in trade.

So sneaky little Kevin is hiding the election date.

An election has not been called yet.

There is no need to call an election yet.

We have until November 30.

No one is hiding anything.

There is nothing to see here.

So the announcement of a sept 14 election date turns out to be just another failed labor announcement.  the economy stumbles under the paralysis of an election campaign for the past 6 months only to find it wasnt an election campaign after all.. ONly labor could possibly mess so much up at the same time.

melielongtime, don't you get tired of writing that sort of garbage?  Sept 14 was Gillard's whom, I think you actually know, is no longer PM.  The election date is now Rudd's to nominate and just like all his predecessors, he will name the date when he wants to as is his right.

The red-headed bitch was the first to name a date that wasnt actually the date and 9 months in advance to boot.

So the economy goes into election-mode paralysis only for 6 months later the election campaign is now OFF. And worse,

it is subject to the decision-free zone that is Rudd.  What are the chances that Rudd is even able to make that decision without the GG doing it for him?  Do you recall Rudd actually making a decision in the past without 15 enquiries?

So what your saying is Tony Abbott should have voted with Labor for an ETS back in 2010?

Is that it, new leaders must abide by what the old leaders promised?

That's debatable 40% of my business is government based its ticking along nicely, but I'll accept every industry has its own requirements, but its hardly the WHOLE economy

Then you've got no worries have you, the only thing that changes is the election date & that can ONLY be pushed out to the 30/11/12, which again his already ruled out 3 Saturdays both footy code grand final w/ends & the 14/9/13.
there's no time to form committees or have inquiries

So relax, remember that Fear you said you couldn't see, read your post.

individal examples prove nothing - such as your business. But the paralysois during election campaigns is well known.  that is why business was so angry at the 9 month campaign that has now turned into the 'who knows when' campaign which in true Rudd style is the only decision he made that could possibly make  Gillards election dates decision WORSE

I spent 15 yrs running a business where 90% of my work was govt. based, rarely was it affected by elections, what rubbish. End of financial year presented more problems for me than an election, and even then, that was only for a couple of weeks whilst old budgets ended and new ones were kicked off.  ...... . That may be the case with your business, but don't try to imply that it applies to businesses in general. Most govt. contracts are awarded and budgets determined long before an election is called.  The fact that an election is called doesn't change the contracts entered into previously.  If your contract has expired with months to go until an election, you should maybe blame yourself ... you knew 3 yrs ago that there would be an election this year.

Who are those who're desperate for an election date ?  What's their point ?

Are they like kids who want Christmas or their birthday to hurry up ?

Whoopty doo, huh.  The day when most Aussies trudge up to the local school and made doodles on bits of paper

Gee, the world will change, right ?

An election will make everyone's problems just go away !

The smell of fear is strong in here!

It's permeated the entire forum.

Fascinating to watch.

You should see the Austerity post for desperation..I'm surprised you haven't called it yet.

Or do you only get ya knickers all knotted when its the other team  Grin Grin

"ya knickers all knotted"?

What are you talking about?

I'm not upset about anything: quite the opposite.

I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the Libs panic.

It's wonderful.

this supposed liberal 'panic' is interesting. would you care to point out a single post that has panic in it. The margin has shrunk as predicted but Abbott remains firmly in front so not only am I not panicking I dont see anyone else on her doing so or in public life. IN fact I dont see any analysts even predicting Rudd will win.

And yet the Lib supporters are fearful.

It's delightful.

lovely circular argument. you say there is panic because... you say there is panic.  It is at least consistent with your previous posts on illegal vs unlawful.  I suppose you ahve a new definition of 'panic' as well as your new definition of 'unlawful'.

One only has to look at the new threads started in the last few days by Maqqa and red baron.

The fear and panic is real.

I'm loving it.

My local cafe is up in arms over this. You know what they said to me the other day - "would you like chicken salt on the potato cakes.". You can tell they are furious.

Yes, apparently not knowing when the next federal election is going to be held will cause all sorts of problems and confusion.  Chicken salt indeed.

Next time you're getting some potato cakes just let them know that there are two things that they can be certain of:

1. The election will be on a Saturday.

2. It will be no later than November 30, 2013.

oh how I'd love a potato cake right about now.  But my cafe has shut doors until such time as Rudd announces an election - they are too worried. Wink

Well, you could fly to New Zealand and buy a potato cake (choice bro!), however, the airports have all been closed.

It's just too risky to fly until the airlines know exactly when the election will be held.
