My local cafe is up in arms over this. You know what they said to me the other day - "would you like chicken salt on the potato cakes.". You can tell they are furious.

You think they were upset, I was offered vinegar on my chips!

Sneaky little Kevin wants debates but he won't announce an election date.

You naughty little miscreant Kevin, you can't have it both ways.

Now he has admitted that he made mistakes with 'the boats' policy.

Mistake..uhhh yes..that's one way of putting it..45,000 mistakes actually Kev.

Not too many of us make mistakes that big, that is a King Kong size mistake.

I'll guarantee you he will announce an election date before November 30 this year.

Where's the problem?

Why do you Libs keep going on about an election date?

Just another distraction.

This was Howard's favourite game so the coalition have nothing to complain about.

Just like every prime minister before him - Rudd will go to the election when it suits him best.

I expect an election date will be announced some time in July - especially if the polls turn in the ALP's favour.

WTF difference does it make to them when the election is held?  Please explain, melielongtime.

if you were ever in business esp small business you would know that everytime an election is called, business slows down. Every time.  I dont know why, but that doesnt stop it from being true.

Well, I guess owning a legal practice is being in 'small business,' and I'm certain that owning and operating Cabs also is in 'small business.'  All I've ever seen is the usual seasonal cycles.

I did say that some industries are immune to the election-slowdown.  Industries that operate on anything like discretionary expenditure like retail or any services that can be delayed.  If you do criminal law then they are going to need a lawyer regardless to the election.  But you might forgo that new car or that training or a new TV for a few months or longer. But you wont put off getting your drains unclogged for example.

Nonsense.

nonsense because it didnt happen to YOU?  As mentioned previously, the election-induced slowdown is known through the retail and services sector.  Pretending it isnt true does you not good.

The smell of fear is strong in here!

It's permeated the entire forum.

Fascinating to watch.

You should see the Austerity post for desperation..I'm surprised you haven't called it yet.

Or do you only get ya knickers all knotted when its the other team  Grin Grin

"ya knickers all knotted"?

What are you talking about?

I'm not upset about anything: quite the opposite.

I'm thoroughly enjoying watching the Libs panic.

It's wonderful.

this supposed liberal 'panic' is interesting. would you care to point out a single post that has panic in it. The margin has shrunk as predicted but Abbott remains firmly in front so not only am I not panicking I dont see anyone else on her doing so or in public life. IN fact I dont see any analysts even predicting Rudd will win.

And yet the Lib supporters are fearful.

It's delightful.

lovely circular argument. you say there is panic because... you say there is panic.  It is at least consistent with your previous posts on illegal vs unlawful.  I suppose you ahve a new definition of 'panic' as well as your new definition of 'unlawful'.

One only has to look at the new threads started in the last few days by Maqqa and red baron.

The fear and panic is real.

I'm loving it.

a swag of threads by Maqqa is new????  And this time he is complaining about Rudd... how exactly is that even out of character?

maybe, just maybe because for the entire yer the date was sept 14 and now it is...

?????

Say what you want about Howard but he announced an election date ONCE and then dissolved parliament and got on with it.  Labor announces a date almost a year ahead and then tru to form reneges on the promise.

Only selected services, and those who are backed by government funding.

Retail has slowed as the savings ratio remained high at 10.6 per cent, while dwelling investment remained unchanged.

Consumers are remaining reasonably cautious and trying to reduce debt. Its not because of an election date.

We also knew there would be an election date before November 30, so whether it is August, Sept, Oct or November doesnt really matter.

IF ANYTHING IT SUGGESTS TONY'S PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT WALK IN AND SLASH AND BURN APPROACH HAS PEOPLE FAR MORE WORRIED THAN A CONTINUATION OF THE SAME.

Id say there is a good change Rudd will read the morgan poll and think labor is in front and call and election.  But of course that would require a DECISION and thats not exactly Mr Magoo's atrength, is it?

Suggested date.

No election was called.

It still might be that date.

It will be sometime between now and November 30.

There's nothing to see here.

They'll wait until they see galaxy and news poll.

It's still the coalitions to win, however they aren't as sure of the result now.

If Kevin does manage to win (somehow) it will be all about Tony Abbott more than what people think of the ALP.

This might shape up as a mirror to 1993 - The ALP are returned with a 1.5% swing (+6 to the ALP) only to be booted out at the next election.

Of course this is probably all moot as it's still the coalitions to lose (55% chance they'll still win!)
