What will the  Abbott austerity program consist of?

Maybe the Libbos on this forum have some inside information
on what we should expect under an Abbott government?

Will we look like Greece as per this picture of riots?

...

Abbott's austerity plan brought him to near collapse today.
61 to 39 - just scraping in by 12 votes.
This was predicted by me.
Will the riots as per Greece follow one day?

Plan is to reduce disposable incomes of the peasants - discussion taking place over a fine champagne and a few canape`s prior to an expensive dinner to restore the politicians after such strenuous work. All laid on out of the taxpayer's purse to get this noble work done.  Then a free ride to first class accommodation and a night's sleep aided by as much good booze as can be bought for $300.... a night...

That may be so but there is little similarity to European style austerity and the current government. Since individual European nations within the Eurozone are not sovereign in their own currencies their use of monetary policy is restricted. They rely heavily on fiscal policy leading to reductions in government spending in order to retire debt. That is quite different to the local practice here where monetary policy plays a major role in the money supply. Fiscal policy here has been expansionary. At the micro level it is the policies that suck but austerity is a poor description.

Expansionary! Building a few roads and signing a couple of FTAs that might help Primary production at the expense of other industries is hardly progressive expansion of our income base.
The biggest missed opportunity this country has is to jump on the Carbon bandwagon. I don't care whether you believe in climate change or not. As progressives from the left and right understand and so many seem unable to grasp, the opportunity for Australia to be a world leader in this growth area of the future and broaden our income base is already being lost. No better way to kill two birds with one stone and "help the environment" Roll Eyes whilst broadening our income base then by becoming world leaders in "New Energy" development and the jobs that go with it.
If only we had a way of driving that through the economy. Maybe Malcolm can get through to the idiots who don't understand.

Good point, but Mr Abbott believes in alternative energy supplies.

Yes, Mr Abbott believes in coal exports and fracking. Why would anyone bother with all that other nonsense? As Joe Hockey says, wind farms are an eyesore, an.absolute disgrace.

And why would anyone bother with solar? No one makes a profit out of it. Solar panels are just plain ugly. Electricity wires have a certain aesthetic, and we’re prepared to pay for them.

Mr Abbott took 9% off the price of my bills last year. Well, not my bills, the electricity cost. The service charges remain the same. Still, I save $40 a year, and that’s nothing to be sneezed at.

No, this government has a vision for our future. We need to give them a fair go. Good government starts today.

Starting from now.

It was all started by that idiot called Rudd.

He just borrowed & borrowed to put us in the worst possible position
that we couldn't get out of it - & never will -

even with the Abbott austerity program.

Well said, goosecat.. but not likely to happen with the current addiction to Banana Boats laden with ores waiting to be filled.

No way - the Libbos go after the most disadvantaged people with the least money.

True - yet Libbo PMs always say - when they've just won government that:

Cuts to welfare -

this was predicted by me long ago & now it's reality:

Abbott is going to kick sick people off the DSP:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/welfare-overhaul-fairer-simpler-and-sustain...

Quote:
ELIGIBILITY for the Disability Support Pension would be dramatically tightened and government payments simplified into five streams under a blueprint for the biggest welfare overhaul in a generation.

A report into the welfare system by a panel headed by community sector reformer Patrick McClure focuses on increasing the workforce participation of welfare recipients but recommends people who receive social security be no worse off under the new system.

The current system of 20 payments and 55 supplements would be simplified to five payments and four supplements. But young people would not become eligible for welfare payments until they reached 22.

Under the report’s recommendations, the DSP would become a “supported living pension” and unemployment benefits would be changed into a three-level “working-age payment” based on the recipient’s capacity to work.

The supported living pension would be available for people with a disability and an assessed work capacity of fewer than eight hours a week. But they would qualify only if the incapacity was expected to last for at least five years instead of two under the current DSP rules.

Those with greater capacity to work would be moved to the tiered working-age payment, with higher payments rates for more disabled recipients at levels above the current Newstart rate.

If there's no austerity...Australia is finished.
It's already drowning in debt and going backwards at about $50 billion per annum.

10 years x $50 billion...that's B for Billion = $500Billion extra in 10 years time.

ie; about $750 Billion in the red ink...debit...debt...on which interest will have to be paid every month.

$750 Billion debt...then soon $1 TRILLION...and Australia is finished then.

The rot must be stopped...and the budget brought back into balance as soon as possible.
Who ran up all the debt?
Answer...the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd govts.
When was the last time a Labor govt ever balanced a budget
Answer; a long time ago.

Greece kept borrowing money to pay its public servants and keep its false 'spend more than it earnt' lifestyle.
Borrowed and spent itself into ruination.
