Libbos still leading in Sportsbet

A few weeks ago you could have got 8 to 1 on labor winning -
it's now 3.75 to 1.

http://www.sportsbet.com.au/betting/politics/australian-federal-politics

Quote:
Pay on party which supplies the Prime Minister following the next Federal election.Bets settled at time of swearing in.
All bets carry over if the Gov General does not swear in a PM because supply cannot be guaranteed.Coalition refers to the Liberal Party.

Sworn In Government

Coalition 1.26

Australian Labor Party 3.75

But the latest poll says Labor will win so maybe it's a good bet?

http://www.independentaustralia.net/2013/politics/morgan-poll-shows-labor-in-fro...

Quote:
Morgan Poll shows Labor in front

This week’s Morgan Poll, the second since Kevin Rudd became Prime Minister, shows another swing to the ALP.
The ALP is now at 51.5% (up 2% since last Wednesday’s snap SMS Morgan Poll), ahead of the L-NP 48.5% (down 2%) on a two-party preferred basis.

Maybe the board could have an internal betting ring, where the stakes are like those of the recent Rudd v Gillard contest, the loser leaves the boards.

Will be interested to see if any rusted on left or rights are prepared to take one anothers challanges.

Me, Im hoping for another hung parliment.

Maybe I should bet my house on it?
If I win I could live the rest of my life as a retired person in luxury -
if I lose I'll be at the Salvation army hostel.

What should I do?

Because it passed more bills than any other government in history in the worst economic times the world has seen since the great depression.

Howard didnt pass anywhere near as many bills in a term even when he had a majority in both houses.

I went to the APH site and got the following stats;

43rd Parlament (The unworkable shamble) - 472
42nd (ALP) - 409
41st (Howard with both houses) - 549
40th (Howard) - 427
39th (Howard, including GST which was a fair few bills) - 564

Interesting how an unworkable shamble produced more than one of howards great eras.  I was obviously wrong about when howard controlled both houses.

Why is it weak?  I think its actually the other way round, the strongest stand up and fight for what they believe in.

It's weak because the Govt. can't pass the legislation that we may really need.

Ever studied the Weimar republic in Germany?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/history/mwh/germany/weimarstrengthweak...

Quote:
Proportional representation - instead of voting for an MP, like we do in Britain, Weimar Germans voted for a party. Each party was then allocated seats in the Reichstag exactly reflecting (proportional' to) the number of people who had voted for it. This sounds fair, but in practice it was a disaster it resulted in dozens of tiny parties, with no party strong enough to get a majority, and, therefore, no government to get its laws passed in the Reichstag. This was a major weakness of the Republic

Thats not true because it passed 472 peices of legislation, 63 more than the ALP majority before it and more than 1 of howard 3 terms.

It also passed four massive peices of legislation, being the NDIS, Gonski, Carbon Pricing and the NBN.

Verge,
it depends on what legislation it passed -
it may not have been what Labor wanted.

Anyway - you're off topic.

What do you think of the odds?
