Department of Child Protection will no longer protect children from parents taking this course in having the procedure done.

Has our government ever protected children when they are outside of the country?

How would they know if children had this procedure done anyway, the children would most likely be unable to complain and they can't do physical checks on re entry.

I think this is more than likely a Muslim basher thread......showing up naughty mussi's being naughty again. We hit on this topic at least twice a year.

No! I do not agree with genital mutilation, and the sooner their own women stand against it the better. Education is needed, not interference.

A WA couple who allegedly took their baby daughter to Bali for a genital mutilation procedure has had charges against them dropped.

The Director of Public Prosecutions discontinued the case against the northern suburbs couple today.

A trial date was due to be set, however state prosecutors told the District Court today that it was dropping the charges because there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

The husband and wife, who are believed to be in their 40s, were charged by WA Police child abuse squad detectives in September last year after they allegedly took their one-year-old to the Indonesian holiday island for the procedure the month before.

It is understood the girl remained with her parents following an extensive investigation by the Department of Child Protection.

Female circumcision is a common practise in some parts of the world but is illegal in Australia.

The maximum penalty for female genital mutilation in WA is 10 years.

Hate to say this but jurisdictional legal issue may prevent any state authority acting.
Even if they had the Authority they would need cooperation from foreign police authorities to have a basis to act.
If a country culturally and legally thinks such an act is ok, then I doubt such would ever happen, in fact the police force there might be completely corrupt.

100% morally agree, but the law works in layers.

If the act was committed here it would be a completely different issue.

Similar legal issues exist for recognition of gay marriage BTW, the US is trying to sort all this out.

Genital mutilation has been happening in Australia for centuries, male circumcision comes to mind and even more recently piecing.

All genital mutilation performed on any male or female child whether religious or not should be outlawed in Australia.

I am getting sick of this gender war, it should be titled "CHILD" GENITAL MUTILATION
