cods Gold Member Offline Australian Politics Posts: 88048	can anyone explain Jul 6^th, 2013 at 9:15am why did we send a naval ship into Indonesian waters to pick up passengers from a people smuggling boat in distress just off Java??????.... can anyone explain just what sort of message, is that sending to the people smuggling empire.??? was this a cosy up to the Indonesian govt ????. seems like madness to me.

Apparently it was 42 nautical miles from shore, that's a fair swim for anybody.

Wouldn't the closest vessel go to the rescue? that was most likely the one that did go to the rescue, so it was one of ours....we should be thankful, not critical of them, that they got the passengers to safety.

pansi it was ion In donesian waters... why on earth would our navy be closer than theirs.

no one is saying let them drown...just asking WHY.. why then didnt the ship take them back to Java.. which had to be closer than Christmas Island.. come on I dont believe you dont think something smells about that?

I honestly think the Indonesian govt is behind them leaving in the first place.. life is cheap over there.

For a warship to go into another country port they have to get permission first they can't just roll up, that is why they took them to Christmas island instead of Indonesia
