Julia Gillard has revealed she discussed race and gender with US President Barack Obama, saying they shared a bond based on their unique understanding of what it was like to reach high office.

In her last lengthy interview before she lost the prime ministership, Ms Gillard said Mr Obama's experience as the first African-American president and her status as Australia's first female PM helped them to understand each other.

''I think there is a little bit of a spark there about the sense of being 'the first' and consequently having to deal with things that someone else who's in your position has never had to,'' Ms Gillard told journalist Anne Summers.

oh poor Julia.. still a victim I see...being a women is a crime now in this country... boy she sure knows how to flog a dead horse..

as if being a female PM could possibly compare
to being Americas first Afro President..

she would have to be one silly women.its all been poor me with her.. well julia your Emilys list women didnt stand by you did they???

lets hope she goes off and gets a life.

How does any of that say she is a victim? It says she is strong and first. I see you arent calling obama a victim there and they were saying they were alike in being first.

Gillard was twice-appointed, never elected. In fact, if the two turncoats had voted the way their electorates voted for them, she would've been once-appointed and never PM the second time.
