Since when did motherhood statements become policies?

I have to admit to being somewhat puzzled and bemused by the levels of hypocrisy and coincidence in the political arena this past week.

It started in earnest with Rudd’s assertion that Abbott’s “policy” of  turning back the boats (When it’s safe to do so), could open the way to a diplomatic conflict.  Which according to Bishop, was Rudd saying that they (The LNP) would start a war with Indonesia.    Her outrage was hilarious and full of hypocrisy.

Then there was Rudd’s challenge for Abbott to debate him on policy, to which Abbott replied, “well if he wants to recall parliament, I’ll debate him there.”… WTF?   he hasn’t debated policy at all, that I can recall, in the entire term of this parliament.

Rudd has since then ramped up the pressure, asking if Abbott has the guts to debate the issues      I wonder if he meant that as a rhetorical question?

We also have the QLD coroner, a week after Rudd’s comeback, reportedly blaming in part the Federal government for the tragic electrocution death of a young man who apparently chose to buy and use metal staples, rather than  use the nylon ones, because they made the job quicker.

We also saw the parents of the young man, seemingly blaming Rudd personally.

Well as sad and sorry as I feel for the family, who are obviously still grieving, they are drawing an extremely long bow there.   We then saw the LNP trying again for political milage from this tragic loss of a young life.

Now maybe the timing of the coroners report is just coincidence, but the rampant hypocrisy certainly isn’t, it’s about Abbott trying to divert attention away from his lack of policies.

And as much as he waves his little “Our Plan” booklet around, there is not a lot in there that can be debated, as it is long on aspiration, but very short on detail, and totally lacking in costings.   

Which is why The LNP are getting more and more hysterical in their calls for an early election, because the longer this drags out, the harder it’s going to be for the LNP to look like a credible alternative while withholding actual policies, with detail and costings.

And I, like many others, am really hanging out for these debates, cos I’m dying to get the answer to the question;

“Since when did motherhood statements become policies?”
