LOVE smartphones.

Decreased the amount of heavy stuff you have to cart everywhere and making life so much more convenient.

My phone is ;

My whole music collection.

My camera.

My calculator.

My library.

My computer.

My clock and alarm.

My news source.

My language translator.

My baby pacifier.

My compass.

My recipe storer.

My GPS.

And many many many more things in one tiny package.

I find I am reading more books than I used to.

I'm keeping in more contact with my friends.

I've reconnected with friends from my past.

I'm sharing videos and photos of my baby with his grandparents in another country , instantly.

Smartphones, amazing things.

Ten years ago my phone made phonecalls and sent SMS.

Cant wait to see what mindblowing things await us in ten years from now.

exactly!

And Greg I agree with you - I have a HTC and the pics it takes are great.

Mobile phones take awful pics compared to a proper DSLR camera.

I wonder how important these people found their recipe collection when it was in books.

I'm finding that I'm happy to lug around a phone book with map, a camera, and a newspaper to keep record of what happened, is happening, or where it has, is, or going to happen.

Yes, well you wouldn't want to leave home without knowing how to whip up a quick creme brulee.

thats right. i dont think people realise just how low quality the images produced by phone and point and shoot cameras are in comparison to dslrs. the colours are muddy and the tiny sensors produce enormous amounts of noise in darker shooting conditions.

the negative social effects of these devices however are my main objection to them.

Nothing wrong with my Nikon point-&-shoot camera (8mp).

But my bloody phone's camera is pathetic.

trust me - when you use a dslr youll never want to go back

they will introduce you to a world of colour and clarity that no point and shoot camera can dream of possessing

I tried to use the camera on my Nokia phone to take a picture of the VIN under the bonnet of my car because it was too far in to see. I got a blurred image.

I tried to use my web-cam to take a picture of a label at the back of my monitor so I could post a picture of it online and include it in the description for selling it on eBay. I got a blurred image, again. I thought the resolution would be high enough.

I have a theory: the camera doesn't just capture parallel light rays coming from the target. It captures light from other angles as well. This blurs the image.

Apparently it's not good enough to just have a camera if you want to take a high resolution picture.

you were probably getting a blurred image because it is very dark inside your car bonnet which means the camera needs to increase the exposure time to take the photo and given you're handholding the device that means you're bound to shake it

Don't think anyone saying good cameras aren't better for taking photos (my HTC takes great photos and videos) But to have a good camera sitting in your pocket is a bonus, and it is also a phone, calander, alarm/clock, navigator etc etc etc - love it.

But i get some of what is being said.

We were having tea at the pub the other night and the young couple next to us were on them all the time, even when they ate, barely said a word to each other.

And wankers not looking where they are going walking on the foot path.

And car drivers on phones... Angry

I hate phones of any description.  Only answer the house phone when absolutely necessary -- meaning when it suits MY needs

Well you don't need to be a slave to the mobile.  I often turn off the ring tone on mine. Without a phone  I'd denied the pleasure when some idiot calls and asks for my private details for security purposes of reaponding by asking their full names and date of birth for security purposea, or of letting a salesman drag on with jis pitch only to say - sorry I don't buy things over the phone. This post is probably crap because I'm travelling and using my smartphone to postandaks fot

Smart phones are great in that soon they will make credit cards obsolete.

They will also assist the digital currencies that will collapse the governmental manipulated currencies.

Viva La Revolution.
