I have a question, will those resettled in PNG get centrelink?  The reason I ask is when Gillard told East Timor it was hosting a refugee reprocessing centre, much to the surprise of the East Timorese, (remember that hilarity  Grin) one of the reasons they said no thanks was because they rightly figured it to be untenable to their own population to have living among them people who without requiring to work earned more than the locals and were in every way better off.

I cannot see the local PNG population reacting any different.

Still, this is more fun than a box of monkeys and the rusted on laborites, (apart from the greens) have no clue what to do.

All they know is if Abbott had announced it as a policy it would have been universally declared evil and racist, but it was announced by Kevin O'Lemon, so there is mass confusion amongst the hypocrites.

Too many mozzies, not enough jobs, too hot...in PNG.  Grin

Interesting question, although it will probably be moot.

This solution will either be costing squillions or it will only hold together long enough to get Rudd through an election.

It may be challenged by the New Guinea opposition, but that wont happen until after the election in Australia.

True to labor form it will cost the Australian Tax payer a bundle to help keep labor in power, then the scheme will fail spectacularly.

We Aussies just dont learn.

It seems to have sucked Abbott in.

Correction, Abbott's now against it.

How can it possibly fail, Miketrees? Without the offer of settlement in Australia, who’s going to get on a boat?

Do you see any refugees paying ten grand and waiting months for a boat trip from Indonesia to New Guinea?

I’d be surprised if any more boats leave Indonesia from here on in. The next few days will be very interesting.

They'll start threatening to cut their throats if they are taken to PNG

errr...how is this any different to Howard turning Nauru into a Gulag?

Except for the fact that PNG would be much, much cheaper place for a concentration camp than Nauru?

ALP = LIB

Both exactly the same.

Pandering to racist bogans

Hope you are all pleased with yourselves.

You still whining and calling people names?
When the country shoppers are lining up naked outside of the shower blocks, let me know eh.
Particularly if the bodies are being cremated.
And how many country shoppers have been shot by the camp guards?
What's that you say, errr none.
If you have proof that these detention centres are actually concentration camps, you'd better call the authorities if you actually want something done eh.
Otherwise your just going to come across as a whining lefty.

Do we have a responsibility not only to remove them and not return them from persecution but guarantee them a life of roses as well?  Eff of with that bullshit.

No reason why it cannot all be all of the proposed solutions, it doesn't need to be either or.

I think the visa crackdown is a good idea.  Add to that turn back where safe, if not safe to do so, then to Manus Island and settlement in PNG (with the proviso I would like to see the details, Labor and implantation do not have a good record), plus TPV and incarceration if they decide to swim from PNG to Qld.

And throw in demerit points at processing if suspecting of losing your documents and Bob Carrs country profiles to be included in the consideration process.

Now you’re just sounding bitter. I have no idea why, Maqqa. How many STOP THE BOATS threads have you started here over the last few years? At least one a week - more. We’re talking hundreds of threads, with you either calling for Labor to do something about the boats, or complaining that they couldn’t.

Now they have, and for whatever reason, you sound miffed about it.

One question - are you actually interested in solving problems, or do you just come here for a moan?

Rudd has no choice but to make a drastic move like this

He'll take the political hit from the left - and if it works then Abbott will bask in its success like Swannie when he collected the "Greatest Treasurer" title

Brilliant.

The bvgger was PM for 2 years, buggered everything he touched, including creating the situation to which he is now reacting, but you are giving him a free pass because yesterday he promised to do something about the mess he created (but blames on everyone else).

You are another sycophantic, hypocritical dissembler or else suffering from early onset memory loss.

I am interested in Rudd taking responsibility and first and foremost APOLOGISE for his mistakes

He loves an apology so this one is not difficult

That apology has not been front and centre

He then should apologise the the families of the 1000+ illegals that have died as a result of Labor's 7 policy position over the last 6 years

It took the might of Labor 12 months to come up with a Malaysian Solution that didn't work - Rudd's 2 weeks job looks like heading the same way

Maybe we should just let refugees into Australia, instead of putting them into detention camps that have literally been described as comparable with war POW camps. I don't know, but it feels like it'd be a lot EASIER to just grant these refugees fleeing to Australia, basic human rights, and decency.

Before the 2007 election, Rudd said he would send back boats of asylum seekers when safe. "You'd turn them back," he insisted.

After the election he did no such thing but instead dismantled the existing border laws and the off-shore detention centres which had stopped the boats. He claimed this to be compassionate.

After he lost the leadership he told the Labor party not to 'shift to the right' on the issue.
After numerous attempts, the Labor Party under Rudd now promises not only to send all  boat arrivals to PNG but to settle them there as well- as if he could forcibly settle anyone in another country.

I am not surprised that as a narcissist he lurches opportunistically whichever way the wind blows. What I am surprised about is that anyone still believe him. That's incredible.

Who cares? It's all to suck in the voters to win the election and send phoney tony to the political graveyard, and Rudds just done it. Grin Cheesy Grin

Well, if people are stupid enough to be svcked in by Rudd, good luck to him.

Can't say the same for the country, but if the majority decide to be taken in by Kevni the SECOND time, then he deserves a prize.

But it won't happen. Labor is a minority government. The Greens are not going to be there for Kevni. And he will not take seats off the Libs or the independents. Windsor and Oakshott will not run and their seats will revert to the coalition (those seats would have been lost by the two indepndents anyway, had they decided to re-contest them). A few marginal Labor seats in NSW and WA will definitely fall to the Coalition.

There is no money to do a bit of pork barreling. So Kevni is fighting an uphill battle. He will make a marvellous opposition leader.

oh he is that alright....and he doesnt give a sh!t ass long as it means a vote...

its all about winning soren.. got nothing to do with being fair or caring.. as he pretends..

he is a conman... I will say he is one of the best conmen I have seen....

he actually leaves Frank Abagnale of Catch me if you Can fame in the shade.. he changes color as well as sides just with zip.. and they fall for it..

if abbott was as shallow as this guy.. I would run screaming in the opposite direction.. but this lot fall all over this guy..

they must like being conned thats all I can say.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

you cannot seriously criticise Rudd for changing his position, whilst in the same statement praise Abbott who has changed positions more times than a brothel full of hookers .

Grin Grin Grin
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

How and when did Abbott change his position on the boats??

who mentioned the boats?

Cheesy Cheesy

The whole thread and my post you responded to, Mr Goldfish.  No wonder Kevni is doing well in the polls, what with the wilfully demented and early onset memory loss crowd cheering him on.

But you wouldn't remember, so don't worry about it. Another turn in your fish bowl, another new beginning.
