Succinct and articulates what I was trying to say when Milne had her first press conference.

Quote:
The Greens' leader, Christine Milne, screamed: but PNG is poor, refugees may not even get jobs there (actually, they don't get jobs in Australia either, just welfare). She justified her outrage by comparing Australia and PNG's average per-capita incomes.

But if people are refugees, they are fleeing persecution and they won't be persecuted in PNG. If they are seeking a society with a high average income, in Milne's unconsciously revealing formulation, then they are economic migrants and should apply to migrate to Australia like anyone else.

Too many mozzies, not enough jobs, too hot...in PNG.

It will be interesting to see if this solution works.  It is essentially another version of the Pacific Solution which Rudd supported at one stage, opposed at another and has now re-invented.  My only concern is that it is a RUDD policy which means there has to be something in the details that will ruin it.  After all, when he was PM, everything he touched turned to crap.  What should this be any different?

But it is amusing that he has yet again copied a Howard policy and the lefties are tying themselves in knots over it.

Now, now melielongtime.  Hayseed never, ever, ever....not once...... took the position that if you want to pay Achmed the Smuggler to take you on a cruise of the Indian Ocean.....you will not end up in Australia....you will end up in PNG.  Fell free to prove me wrong with links.

he has supported the Malaysian solution, the pacific solution, 'towing the boats back', 'come one, come all', the compassionate approach and the hardline approach.  other than torpedoing the boats, what other positions is there for him to adopt?

Hayseed = Howard.  The solution Abbott can adopt is Rudd's, because it will work.  If you think it won't, please tell me why.

my point, should you decide to actually understand it, is that Rudd has adopted virtually every position possible on the boat people problem.  And in the end, has returned to what was in place before he came to power.  Full circle with Rudd turning around 360 degrees, agonising over a decision and coming back to where we were 6 years ago.

We were resettling all people who arrive by boat to png?

Wow... Someone tell tony this news for he thinks we are now outsourcing an australian problem.  Aside of course from being a wanker hypocrite who thinks turning boats back to Indonesia is not outsourcing, someone should tell tony that his circle jerk partner was doing what Rudd is doing, in 2007.  Apparently.

Or that the Pacific Solution "in its entirety" with jails on Nauru and Manus Island is more humane than community housing and residency in New Guinea.

Mr Abbott’s still talking about turning back boats.

Slow and steady wins the race, eh?

Brilliant.

The bvgger was PM for 2 years, buggered everything he touched, including creating the situation to which he is now reacting, but you are giving him a free pass because yesterday he promised to do something about the mess he created (but blames on everyone else).

You are another sycophantic, hypocritical dissembler or else suffering from early onset memory loss.

It must suck big time, Soren, to be you.  Rudd, by way of pragmatic decision and with the co-operation of Indonesia and PNG, solves a problem (one he 'created' if you like) in a manner no-one else verbalised and you are bitching like a bloody kid as if you lost your teddy.

What is your problem with Rudd's solution?

Ooh ooh, Mr Aussie, sir, I can answer that for pupil swallow, swallow is pissed off that phoney Tony did not come  with the solution and Rudd has buggered phoney over.

Swallow’s just exposed himself as the cranky old rusted-on Tory he’s always pretended he’s not.

He just wants a solution that punishes the tinted races more. Forget the greatest good to the greatest number, Swallow wants the greatest amount of pain.

War with Indonesia would be ideal.

Swallow is just a wanker who needs to stop playing with himself.

Before the 2007 election, Rudd said he would send back boats of asylum seekers when safe. "You'd turn them back," he insisted.

After the election he did no such thing but instead dismantled the existing border laws and the off-shore detention centres which had stopped the boats. He claimed this to be compassionate.

After he lost the leadership he told the Labor party not to 'shift to the right' on the issue.
After numerous attempts, the Labor Party under Rudd now promises not only to send all  boat arrivals to PNG but to settle them there as well- as if he could forcibly settle anyone in another country.

I am not surprised that as a narcissist he lurches opportunistically whichever way the wind blows. What I am surprised about is that anyone still believe him. That's incredible.

oh he is that alright....and he doesnt give a sh!t ass long as it means a vote...

its all about winning soren.. got nothing to do with being fair or caring.. as he pretends..

he is a conman... I will say he is one of the best conmen I have seen....

he actually leaves Frank Abagnale of Catch me if you Can fame in the shade.. he changes color as well as sides just with zip.. and they fall for it..

if abbott was as shallow as this guy.. I would run screaming in the opposite direction.. but this lot fall all over this guy..

they must like being conned thats all I can say.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

you cannot seriously criticise Rudd for changing his position, whilst in the same statement praise Abbott who has changed positions more times than a brothel full of hookers .

Grin Grin Grin
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

How and when did Abbott change his position on the boats??

who mentioned the boats?

Cheesy Cheesy

The whole thread and my post you responded to, Mr Goldfish.  No wonder Kevni is doing well in the polls, what with the wilfully demented and early onset memory loss crowd cheering him on.

But you wouldn't remember, so don't worry about it. Another turn in your fish bowl, another new beginning.

Brilliant repertoire, Guppy .... except that I wasn't responding to your comment, I responded to Cods comment. And my comment was about them changing positions and not limited to the asylum seeker issue. But you keep going in la la land ... maybe one day you'll get something right.

If the boat people are seeking refuge from persecution as the left have been claiming for the last 6 years, then they should still be coming even if they do end up in PNG, shouldn't they? To escape persecution?

You know, the reason why you said it was ok for them to keep coming to Australia because they couldn't get citizenship status in Indonesia so they were still persecuted? Now they will have citizenship in any case but it will be to PNG so wouldn't they still want to leave Indonesia where it was ok to transition through because they were stateless and come to a place where they can become citizens?

I how PNG will take to 45000 illegal immigrants arriving on there shores? The ABC already thinks that it might not be a good idea since PNG is predominantly Christian which is surprising seeing as they didn't mention it before about Australia being predominantly Christian.  Roll Eyes

I'm going to guess that you could get a million refugees in PNG and never hear about it. Our media is only concerned about us. Once the boats stop coming, it will no longer be an issue.

So you think that the boats will stop because the asylum seekers are really just country shoppers then. That's good that you have finally admitted it.

are you asking me alp4eva? If so, yes, I think this policy can actually work. Most of the refugees will prefer to head towards Europe than PNG. But it won't matter because even if it doesn't stop the boats, it will stop being a political issue in Australia. No one here will care about boats going to PNG.

I know, astonishing isn't it?  The effwits have no shame.  It was never a smacking issue before but now, suddenly, it is a source of concern?

Quote:
There is also an interesting question in how those resettled refugees will be able to blend in. Papua New Guinea is Christian – in some parts a deeply Christian - country. There is a small population of Muslims, but as many thousands more come in, that reaction is something we will have to wait and see.

Just goes to show the duplicity of the left doesn't it.   Roll Eyes

They will accept nothing less than open borders and welcome all.

Alevine - Swallow says this policy is mean on asylum seekers - I kid you not. Swallow has become a human rights activist for the tinted races - a tinted race hussler.

Amazing how one decision can turn the whole game on its head.

I don't know, but it feels like it'd be a lot EASIER to just grant these refugees fleeing to Australia, basic human rights, and decency.

The refugees we do accept into Australia are granted basic human rights and decency. I believe we are in a position to accept more, and Rudd has promised to increase our intake of refugees if this deal with PNG works. The problem with onshore processing is that encourages many to make what is a very perilous trip without increasing the number of refugees we ultimately accept into Australia.

So the response to is put them into inhumane detention camps, and then now shove them off into a country that actually doesn't have a stellar record of human rights and basic living conditions?

they are not inhumane, you  wanker.  they are DETENTION camps but they have good living conditions inside.  But that's what happens when you come to a country ILLEGALLY.

They are inhumane. The living conditions are awful.

"The conditions faced by asylum seekers in detention in Nauru are far worse than in detention in Australia:

Asylum seekers are staying in army tents. These tents offer absolutely no privacy, and barely have any room between the stretcher beds.

When it rains, the camp quickly floods. Every single tent observed had at least one leak, with bedding and clothing was soaked.

In the camp temperature reaches over 40 degrees in the compound and 80 percent humidity. The heat means people can’t stay in their tents during the day.

Rodents and insects problems in tents are common.

Most find it hard to sleep in the tents - either because of the extreme heat, the dampness, or because of men crying during the night. This all exacerbates the deterioration of their mental health."

Sounds completely reasonable, right?

And they didn't come here illegally, if they have been found as genuine refugees. If they're genuine refugees we have a moral obligation to welcome them in. Saying "THATS WHAT YOU GET YOU CRIMINAL SCUM" is both plain wrong, and callous. If you think a refugee fleeing a war torn country actually gives a poo about your "queue" then you're completely deluded.

Easy resolution to that.  Don't get on a leaky boat to sail the high seas away from Indonesia.  What is your problem with that?

"Why don't they just STAY in their crappy bombed in country"

That's what you're saying. These people are desperate and putting themselves at risk to escape their country of origin and they shouldn't be punished for this.
