You should be asking Bob Carr. He confirmed they are illegal economic migrants. He's part of the gubmint. He knows. He has the inside goss.

If you don't like the illegal economic immigrants coming then you should write a letter to Mr Carr and ask why he thinks they are illegal economic immigrants.

Rabbitoh, if we allowed anyone in the world to fly to Australia without a visa, and then offered anyone who asked for asylum settlement, people would flock here.

Just think- anyone with one or two grand who’s desperate enough to leave India or Russia or China, would be free to come, persecution or not. All they’d have to do is give it a go.

Processing such a crowd would require new departments, new databases, new courts. Deporting such numbers would be an operation bigger than the Berlin air lift. Housing them - where?

The world is such a different place to when my father jumped ship here and, a few years later, went down to the Immigration office in a suit and filled out the residency forms.

The escalating boat numbers alone show this. The people smuggler price - up to twelve grand for a two day trip - makes it clear. People will go to great lengths to come here, and they do.

For this reason, I can’t see how onshore processing could work - without a huge drop in numbers. Five years ago, no problem. I can’t blame Rudd for getting rid of the Pacific Solution.

Things are different now. These are new times, and they need different measures. The Greens are living in some bizarre parallel universe.

The detention centres are, indeed, inhumane. Years behind barbed wire - for what? Billions wasted and nothing produced but misery.

This is why settlement in New Guinea is the better option. What’s better still is that people don’t come in the first place. We plan our quota and we fly them in ourselves. Safe, humane, and no one feels cheated or robbed of years of their lives spent festering in detention.

And this is what New Guinea will do.

We’re talking hundreds of threads, with you either calling for Labor to do something about the boats, or complaining that they couldn’t.

Now they have, and for whatever reason, you sound miffed about it.

One question - are you actually interested in solving problems, or do you just come here for a moan?

I am interested in Rudd taking responsibility and first and foremost APOLOGISE for his mistakes

He loves an apology so this one is not difficult

That apology has not been front and centre

He then should apologise the the families of the 1000+ illegals that have died as a result of Labor's 7 policy position over the last 6 years

It took the might of Labor 12 months to come up with a Malaysian Solution that didn't work - Rudd's 2 weeks job looks like heading the same way

Wasnt a mistake. Why should any government continue the policies of a previous government? He was ousted before he could implement his own. obviously he has done it now.

No - no one is suggesting that we offer anyone who asks for asylum settlement. We offer genuine refugees settlement -in accordance with our obligations under the UNHCR Convention.

Its a fantastic solution for deterring and saving lives of illegals and a fantastic solution for protecting the little jobs we have for our own people, millions of Australian applaud Rudd for at last doing something.

It can always be reviewed down the track once our country is in better economic shape.

Rudd never claimed he was closing down the Humanitarian intake. He's only denying those who arrive by people smugglers. You are aware that there has been a Humanitarian intake for a number of decades?
