What 16,000?

17000 arrived last year. and the rate shows no sign of slowing.  The PNG non-solution may slow it for a while until the smugglers realise that it isn't really going to make much difference at all.

What sort of fvckwit thinks  the same amount  of refugees will still keep coming when THEY KNOW they will NEVER come to Australia?, oh wow, that kind, evening longwhine.

But won't women and children and families still be allowed in?

I recon boat numbers will go up, he's basically laid out the welcome map.

Cheeses, you will svck and swallow anything, won't you, as long as there is a Labor politician on the other end of it.

They will get into Australia.
There will be room only for 600 in PNG (when they build it). That is LESS than what arrive in a month.
PNG will take ONLY the ones who are found to be refugees. The rest are coming back here.
No families with kids will go to PNG because of the epidemic of malaria and TB against which kids cannot be immunised. Families will not be separated, so they stay here.
Unless they APPLY to settle in PNG, they cannot be forced. Whi the bugger wants to settle in PNG? Nobody. So 600 hundred of them will be kept on Manus Island until they go home or someone else takes them.
600 - that's 3-4 large boats. After that, we are back to where we are now.

You are a big gobbler for nonsense, peasant. You svck down this obvious Ruddite sh!te because you want to. No other reason. You know it's a load of fvckn bollocks but you are up for anything as long as it's Labor bollocks.
Enjoy the election campaign, you will have loads more of this kind of such utter crap to satisfy your appetite.

Karnal - I seem to remember under Howard when only 2 boats made it through  year.

The Navy quietly turned the boats around then they stopped coming.

I don't see one iota of difference if Abbott got in, he could do it again.

Indonesian boats, crewed by Indonesians, leaving Indonesia...yes, I think turn arounds could be arranged alright; and at a fraction of the cost of Rudd's solution.

Unfortunately for you Skippy the clouds are starting to form over Kevvy's head.

Yesterday the Left was howling Rudd down in the street.  A poll is out and on another thread here it shows Rudd's support already starting to slide.

I predicted this would happen, that he would shoot himself in the foot. It doesn't take long for a Leader to alienate someone and in  making his PNG decision he put the Left offside.

He will now start the inevitable slide in the polls. Good luck arresting that one, the cat is amongst the pidgeons.

He will stand or fall on his PNG gambit.

I predicted he would f...k up, even though, I have conceded that the PNG play could be clever, if the boats dry up and the Country Shoppers go elsewhere.

We live in interesting times.

Christmas Island is near capacity, and Nauru has to re-build accommodation destroyed last week.

The navy successfully turned around a total of four boats during the Howard government. Four.

It may have tried to turn around others, including all those SIEVs we heard so much about. Remember children overboard?

Each and every asylum seeker rescued from the sea after scuttling their boats received settlement in Australia.

If the navy causes ONE death at sea by attempting to turn around a boat, there will be an international furor. Because of this, the navy will play it safe. They will not be able to turn back every boat, and they've already said as much.

Bugger all boats will get turned around during an Abbott government, but Abbott won't need to do this anyway.

The boats will stop when the word gets through to Indonesia: no boat people will be settled in Australia. Abbott would be insane not to continue with this policy. If a High Court challenge overturns it, Abbott would be able to legislate. It's Labor's policy, so why would they oppose it from opposition?

If Abbott gets into government, he won't need to stop the boats. They will have already stopped under Labor.

Turning back boats is not a solution in itself, and the Libs have always framed this idea as just one of a host of policies that they implemented through the Pacific Solution.

The Libs entire strategy is a game of bluff with the people smugglers, and they acknowledge this. Abbott says it's about being "seen" to be tough, and this is the whole that is more than the sum of the parts that is the Pacific Solution.

The Libs, however, won't need to be seen as tough. This is now bipartisan. If Abbott interferes with Rudd's policy if and when he gets into government, it will show him to be a complete hypocrite.

So the Coaltion are to be forever stuck with Labor policies then Karnal.
Not in this lifetime anyway.
The Coalition have had their border protection policy tested years ago.
It works.
And when Rudds policy flops, it will change.
Nothing hypocritical about that.
Just common sense.
