smacking peanut!

We're not the only ones who can read English.

Hell, I can read German (ok, not that well), but I'm not a German.

Do wake up!

The OP does seem a tad erroneous particularly when you think that the Tele has been advertising, on the front page at least once a week, IN ENGLISH, about how easy they think it is for these boats to get to Australia.

Hard line asylum stance won't stop them leaving, but may stop them arriving

Ben Doherty
July 20, 2013

The announcement by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd Friday that asylum seekers who reach Australian waters would be resettled in Papua New Guinea has made prominent news in all major newspapers in Sri Lanka.

Mr Rudd is also on the front page of India's mass-circulating Hindu, alongside the headline "Australia slams the door on refugees".

A series of Australian government advertisements - in newspapers, on radio and TV, and in English, Tamil and Sinhala - has for months been cautioning Sri Lankan asylum seekers “there is no special treatment” for those who arrive in Australia by boat.

Dr Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, Director of the Centre for Policy Alternatives in Colombo, said Australia's shift in refugee policy would quickly become widely known in Sri Lanka.

“People will pay attention to it, but the people who are leaving Sri Lanka are doing so because of their situation in Sri Lanka, the lack of political freedom, fears for their own safety, the fact that they don't believe the government's rhetoric about economic development.

"I don't think they are jumping on boats because of a desire to go to Australia per se… it is not about where they are fleeing to, but where they are fleeing from.”

But Mr Bowen said it was important to advertise the new boats plan in Australia, because recent migrants from countries such as Iran, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan would communicate it back to their home countries

The national campaign will be followed by advertisements overseas.

English is the common language bridging Tamil and Sinhala - and used in government and business

Well he did slam the door on refugees.

What is the problem with the newspaper ad? haha it woudlnt cost more than a couple hundred dollars. Its not like its 1000s. those newspapers are always printing propaganda for the libs so the government has to pay for their own ads.

It seems I may have severely overestimated Maqqa's "intelligence".

This is by far one of the most ridiculous (and ignorant) threads I've seen for quite some time.  It even beats some of red baron's nonsense.

You do realise the ads are aimed at relatives and countrymen who are already in Australia so they can spread the message to those that they know who are thinking of coming to Australia via boat.
If not.. you're dumber than I thought..and that was pretty dumb to start with.
The more the message gets out there by whatever means the fewer people will attempt the dangerous journey and the faster this problem will be solved.

Its obvious that Maqqa has taken to the bottle to calm his nerves now that Tony Abbott is doomed.
