The Great Big New Lies
Jul 22nd, 2013 at 10:38am

Who would have thought anyone could beat Julia in the loose with the truth stakes. Well, trust Labor to produce another one.

Lie 1: All people coming to Australia in boats will go to PNG.
No they won't. It's already common knowledge that women & children won't and whole families won't.
And yet Rudd said it, Carr said it, they are all still saying it.
In fact not many will go there at all because there is no room. Rudd said there would be room for 3000. That's a lie too. Now there is room for 350, there may - may -be room for 600 next year some time, but there will never be room for 3000.
And there won't be any resettlement there either. PNG is already backing away from that and there are just so many reasons it can't happen.
Meanwhile Rudd is out scouring the Pacific for other places he can lie about.

Lie 2: The carbon tax is dead.
No it isn't. It's still on the statute book and an ETS isn't. And there won't be any change now or after the election, even if Rudd wins, because he won't have the numbers anytime, not even after next July.
He has sought to defraud the people on this as well but the message is getting out that this is a hoax too.
You'd think that they could do better thanfalse promises that would be so easily discovered to be false.
The trouble with Rudd is he thinks he can do anything with the zip of a pen, but it doesn't work that way.

Lie 3: ALP rule changes will ensure less power for the unions.
No they won't. In fact the unions are going to get more power back through factional control in the caucus for the election of the front bench.
Another lie.
And by the time the annual ALP conference comes around we will see the unions fully back in the saddle.

Sad isn't it, that a PM put in place just weeks ago is already burdened with a whole swag of lies.

no one has ever said that ... I'm pretty sure they want the tourists on the cruise liners to stay here and spend their $$$$$

nope, I believe they said they will replace the carbon tax with the ETS one year earlier than planned. The only thing dying are Abbotts chances of becoming PM.

I believe they claim it will make it harder to remove a sitting PM ... the only ones talking about unions are the libs.

John, your first point is trite and you know it. And you also know they have lied about PNG.
Your second point avoids the fact that this is how they have portrayed the decision about moving to an ETS, ie they have deliberately set out to try and fool the people that Julia's carbon tax is dead. And you know, because you are an intelligent person, that Labor is not going to have the numbers to effect this change, not now, not next July, not ever . . .unless the Greens & Libs support it, fat chance.
Your third point, where you say they are only talking about the leadership is untrue, John, you're fibbing too.
The handing back of the power to caucus to appoint the ministry gives factional power back to the unions. If you don't know that, you should.

So it's 3-0 to bogey.

1- trite or not, my comment is based on fact, yours was / is a lie

2- the fact is the are moving to an ETS one year earlier than originally planned. No one is saying the carbon tax is dead (,maybe a few journo's but they aren't in the ALP) , and I disagree with you about the numbers, If Abbott wins the election it becomes irrelevant, if Abbott loses the election his replacement (most likely Turnbull) will most likely vote to move to an ETS. Labor doesn't have the numbers now, true, but since he isn't going to recall parliament, that's irrelevant.

3- utter rubbish, only 50% of the power is to go to caucus, the other 50% to the members. That takes power away from the unions . the current situation is currently a majority of caucus to change leader. If you cannot see how that takes power from the unions you are blind or you refuse to open your eyes.
