You know I always thought that Australia was most like us in its resentment of British rule.  I would have thought that Australia would have abandoned the crown and become a republic by now.

When the Queen passes the question of a republic will probably rise again. Charles doesn't seem to have the charm the Queen has. Additionally, once the population levels of non-Europeans becomes higher the tide will turn. Personally, I don't mind our constitutional monarchy.

I'm inherently conservative, so tradition counts for a lot with me.  However, given the independent nature of Australians it just surprises me you haven't already.  The idea of being ruled by a British monarch gets my red American blood boiling! Wink

In all seriousness, I'm new here and trying very hard not to "interfere" by suggesting what Australia should/should not do...but I don't think I'd mind seeing Australia become a Republic!

the westminster system of governance is very good.
it has well stood the test of time.
Most countries envy it.
We have greatly benefitted from a relationsip with england AND they had the BEST wedding .

I love them.

We haven't been under British rule for over 112 years now. But even before then, we were very much an independent colony, with only a bit of help coming from the British Isles. We're only under a monarchy because we are worried that we will lose our right to participate in the Commonwealth Games,

Yes good news.

I once wanted a republic, but of course nobody was going to go for the options presented to us previously.

Now I'd rather stick with the system we have as long as there's no outside interference. Let's face it, the yanks have more control over us than Britain.

Hey, if we had any real control over Australia we would never have allowed the musical stylings of "Men at Work" to make it to our shores. Cheesy

No. He'll be your KING, bobby, not mine. I can do just fine without one.

Fair dunkum, I despair.  I just watched a Queensland Pollie (think it was Borbidge) blubber about the same day coincidence of the birth of this kid with the day Armstrong took that one small step.

Cheesy

Yes - the Westminister System is good. There is no need to change it.

It is just unfortunate that our Head of State barracks for the wrong cricket and football teams.

All we need to do is make Warney our King and have his family as our new Royal Family.

Problem solved.

Can have a Westminster system even as a Republic, even with an elected President (my preferred option.)

No.  No elected President.

There are already too many idiots who think they have a "mandate" to do something.  We don't need another one.

If we can't have Warney as King - how about we just draw it out of a hat?  That would be fair.  Maybe we could take turns.  Say, six months as King/Queen - then draw another name out of the hat.  We could all get a go.
