you have an aversion to facts perhaps? Our debt levels are low, and we are one of only 8 countries with 3 AAA ratings.

china and resources shielded us from that.

If I was given the choice between 300bil debt and no debt, I would take the no debt.

I also wonder WTF we have to show for that debt, bugger all.

Debt with nothing to show for it is the trade mark of left wing government (with the exception of George W Bush who was a total Cockswallow)

To a DEGREE
A SMALL degree

( ... minerals and resources contribute around 4 to 5 per cent of the total Australian economy)

Before Rudd got in our economy had been geared to fail in an economic downturn, The Liberals main legacy was to screw our future.

The fact is that irrespective of who was in power through the GFC we would have either gone into debt to stay out of recession or gone into debt trying to get out of recession.

Comparing two totally opposite economic situations as if they are the same is dishonest and what we see here on a daily basis.

butbutbutbut you listen to this!!!!! Shocked

THE federal opposition says it won't rely on Treasury's numbers to work out how much its policies cost.

Instead shadow treasurer Joe Hockey says they have used the Parliamentary Budget Office, state government colleagues and independent advisers.

"You'll see all the details in the next few weeks," he told ABC radio on Friday.

"We have a range of different sources.

"What I can say emphatically is that our numbers will be more reliable than anything the government publishes."

He says the government is trying to "bully" Treasury into delivering a certain set of numbers.

The government will issue an economic statement ahead of the pre-election fiscal outlook (PEFO) released by the departments of Treasury and Finance 10 days into the election campaign.

A report in the Australian Financial Review says the government is facing a budget black hole of $20 billion over the next fours years.

Mr Hockey has previously said the coalition would detail costings of its policies once the PEFO was released.

But now he's casting doubts on its independence.

"Quite clearly by flagging an economic statement the government is trying to bully the public service into a set of the numbers that clearly do not properly represent the state of the budget," Mr Hockey said.

"We are not going to rely on the information that is provided solely by the government because every time the government publishes a number it is dead set wrong."

He said the reports of a further $20 billion hole showed the budget was "in absolute crisis".

"We'll account for all They're not going to call an election this Sunday because they have a budget crisis," Mr Hockey later told the Seven Network.

Treasurer Chris Bowen did not comment when asked about the $20 billion figure, but flagged that the budget was being hit by factors like a drop in the terms of trade.

"We'll account for all our spending, we'll account for that in an open and transparent way," Mr Bowen told Seven.

He said he was committed to a surplus - "that's the plan" - in 2016/17. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd told the National Press Club on July 11 that "we're committed to returning the Budget to balance in 2015-16".

There are some reports that the cabinet is divided on whether the surplus commitment should stand.

A DROP IN TERMS OF TRADE.....HILARIOUS...

Apparently you haven't listened to Abbott or Hockey?

Look at the Abbott unfunded spending commitments - over a Hundred billions and you think he could produce a surplus - well certainly not in his first decade.

How much do you think it's going to cost him to build great cities in the far north for public servants to inhabit on transfer????  Ho Ho Ho.  And you want to talk about economic reality ??? very very funny.

I imagine even a small city would cost hundreds of billions and then the infrastructure transport links etc - all unfunded of course??? Several of them please !!!!

Getting  fed up being told  how little debt per person we have.

So we have AAA rating, big f....g deal, we still have 300 billion wracked up in 4 years, that money plus a swag of interest will have to be re paid.

I don't see any repayment going on, what I see is Rudd an Co. borrowing 100 million dollars a month just to pay the outgoings.

This Government are a bunch of financial vandals.

You can dress a turd up in a fancy doily but underneath its still a turd.

He is talking about his Ouija board of course.

How funny is this - he doesn't trust the Australian treasury so he is going to get his own dodgy figures supplied by his mates??

He obviously knows that the liberals policy numbers leak like a sieve (X) if he is afraid to expose them to honest independent scrutiny.

you would even rely on their figures

The official monetary and economic figures they produce come from treasury and are independently audited??

I see that the Liberals are going to avoid this open and independent process and I don't wonder why.
