Well done Labor for DFRDB Recipients
Jul 30th, 2013 at 12:28pm

Former defence personnel will get a boost in their superannuation payments after the federal government announced they will be indexed in line with the aged pension.

Ex-service groups have long lobbied for a change in the way two retirement schemes are indexed, complaining that linking them to the consumer price index (CPI) is inadequate.

On Tuesday the government announced the Defence Forces Retirement Benefit (DFRB) and the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefit (DFRDB) will from July 2014 be indexed to whichever is the higher of the CPI or the Pensioner and Beneficiary Living Cost Index (PBLCI

"In its first budget, an incoming coalition government will ensure that there finally is justice for our ex-service personnel," Mr Abbott told reporters in Melbourne."

Really?   you had 12 years to fix it before but didn't.  More sound bytes from a desperate Opposition.   There are 55000 servicemen on DFRDB pensions - many at or near 65, looks like Rudd will get a few more votes for what is a good decision Wink

This should have been done at least 20 years ago, so I wouldn't get too congratulatory.

But no-one should be surprised that both sides of parliment love getting their photos taken with the troops, never too keen on ensureing they don't starve to death in retirement
