Quote:It's not the governments job to find work for individuals
why not? it can be if we want it to be, and it already is anyway given the widespread abundance of government funded or subsided employment agencies that do nothing for their clients.
Quote:3. Since we don't live in a fascist or communist dictatorship, the government has no right to force companies to hire people to sit around and do nothing all day, that is what the dole is for.
brah we dont live in your imaginary libertarian society, governments can and already do change the rules of the game any time they are trying to mitigate or remedy an issue. its called coercive power. you pay your taxes right son?
if the government has the 'right' to levy taxes, own roads and manage and occupy land, why cant it force employers to try people out for jobs? as long as the potential beneficiaries of the program are assessed to make sure theyre not absolute scum (which i concede are a non-insignificant % of long term unemployed) i doubt itd be that disastrous.
basically your whole argument boils down to BECAUSE WE'RE ALREADY DOING THIS OR BECAUSE I SAY THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO RIGHT TO DO THIS, IT CANT BE DONE
i am also strongly in favour of slave labour camps for prisoners
