Drug smuggling is a very serious legal and moral criminal offense...I hope Ms Corby has used this time to reflect on herself....

I cried last night first time in a loooooog time just watching TV...

I watched A Better Man...the death of Van Nguyen in Singapore in 2005...the amazing thing is I have v ery little recollection of this mans horror trial and execution...at the time we were obsessed with Corby pretty and white.

its true we are a racist country.. even Brian Browns character a QC.. said he wasnt white so he didnt get the media  attention..

the govt did what they could but the people were pretty well silent...

I know this sounds daft.. but I will never go back to Singapore or fly their airlines...

their court system was more than harsh and I think unfair..they are unbending no one is given a second chance...I thought them cruel.

Corby??.. well she does have a lot of people on her side...as this thread proves...I wonder how many Van would have had under similar circumstances... Cry Cry

more than 500 ausssies in foreign jails, some for crimes they really didnt commit. The only one they care about is Corby who is the least likely to be innocent.

Ian

By definition she is guilty as she has been found so by law.

If you mean she had the weakest case to defend then I agree.

What I will say is that you need to respect customs and laws of the countries you visit more so then when you are at home as you will never fully understand such....... I do believe in the smoke fire theory but out of these many hundred others for sure many of these cases justice was not served even by the particular countries standards.

Whether they committed the crimes or not is really not relevant, its whether they have been afforded the same rights as a citizen of that country has to defend themselves that is all we can ask for, the law gets it wrong here as well.

We expect the same when people visit here.

Singapore is racist too. Citizens are required to carry ID cards labelled with their race.

I have personally found Singapore to be one of the least racist counries in Asia, boring but not racist. The most racist country in Asia would have to be India, by far.

I worked and lived in Singapore for three months some time ago and had no racial issues there.

Its a desirable outcome when social sanctions work in reforming the moral Character of people like Van Nguyen before his death.  Hopefully this will deter others form committing these kinds of crimes.  But if Van saw the error of his way before justice was done upon him then good for him, thats what the process of moral reform and rehabilitation of wrong doers is all about....

Y'all must have been asleep during Nguyen's case/trial/sentence and hanging.

It was constantly on our tv screens and in our newspapers.

Everyone was begging Singapore not to hang him, including the Pope.
Nasty Singapore just went ahead and hanged him.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/barbaric-to-hang-him-ruddock/2005/12/01/1133...

Condemned Australian drug trafficker Nguyen Tuong Van and his mother will be allowed to hold hands, but not to hug, before he is put to death.

Singaporean officials today said they would grant Kim Nguyen an exemption from a total ban on physical contact with death row inmates.

Kim Nguyen had asked to be able to hug her son one final time before he is executed at dawn tomorrow morning.

But in a statement, the Singapore Government said it would allow only limited physical contact between the condemned man and his mother and brother Khoa.

Sentence barbaric: Ruddock

Attorney-General Philip Ruddock today described the sentence imposed on Nguyen as barbaric, and more abhorrent than normal because issues of mitigation were not taken into account.

Schapelle Corby will be released when her sentence for drug offenses is concluded.

Maybe sooner.

New parole hope in Indonesia for Schapelle Corby

Schapelle Corby's hopes of being granted parole after more than a decade in a Balinese prison have taken a huge leap forward.
Indonesian judicial officials today visited her in her cell in Kerobokan Prison and also inspected the home of her sister Mercedes.

I couldn't give two craps if she is alive. Drug dealers are the bottom feeders of society and I have no sympathy

Corby has done her time for the crime... or for her brother anyways...

the national attention she received only added to her time in jail...

she is meeting with Parole members now and could possibly be out as soon as October... but I wouldn't hold me breath...
