Four Lions - on SBS over the w/e

Did anyone watch Four Lions - on SBS over the w/e ???

I only caught the last 30 minutes or so.

The movie seemed to be a surreal 'depiction' of a group of devout [Jihadi] moslems, living in the UK today ???

Some movie critics have described Four Lions thus;

"A very sharp send-up of Muslim jihadists."

But of what i saw of Four Lions, the movie seemed to be a serious portrayal of a group of people who were [in their own minds] behaving 'seriously', if ludicrously [if compared to a normal standard of behaviour].

As a matter of fact I did watch it.

The last 30 minutes was considerably darker than the rest.

Well thats what makes it a spoof isn't it?

The idea that the guy who was carrying explosives and tripped over a wall blowing himself up along with a sheep - would die as a martyr because he took out some "essential infrastructure" (sheep) - is precisely funny because they convinced themselves that was true. Dark funny - but still funny.

Art imitating life then !!

The movie seemed to be art imitating life, imo.

e.g.
'Mohammed was a prophet of Allah, and a virtuous man.'

Moslems have convinced themselves, that that characterisation of Mohammed is true.

Personally i cannot understand HOW any informed moslem can justify, and believe, such a characterisation of Mohammed.

Thats what a spoof is. Another word for that is parody.

Yes I watched it.
It is one the Brits ways of confronting terrorism and it works to a certain extent.If you can show a potential enemy in a humorous but realistic way that their cause is fckn ridiculous then a lot of "would be's" will see the absurdness of it.One way but not the only way the Brits handle terrorism and they have had a lot of experience to draw from.Similar parodies were made about the IRA.
Definitely a wiser approach than the Yanks gungho kill em all.Although I will always support the Americans on their war on terrorism I have to question their inexperience and why they haven't let the Brits play a more active forward role in planning.

Fckn hilarious though! Grin
