So looks like Australia's carbon pollution price will rise steeply in the near future.

the interesting thing is that the pervious price which was already huge FAILED.  but in the way of the Europeans economic formula, a failed policy just means DOUBLE it and try again.  there is a reason why the entire continent except Germany is bankrupt.

Entire continent !
Exaggeration is your friend aye LW.

Market mechanisms work well. Just because Libs support the communist method of Direct Inaction, doesn't mean you should give up on capitalism.

find me a country other than Germany that is not in serious financial difficulties in Europe

Good news.

Looks like Kev may have called it right by scrapping the fixed price period a year earlier than planned.

Well done Kevin.

Lets hope the voters in coal electorates don't realise that Kevin has killed the coal industry a little earlier than he wanted it dead.

despite Greens' wank, the EU price is stil in the order of $5

and anyhow, the CT will be repealed next year by the ABBOTT govt.

Like that no confidence vote this term ... still waiting.

Abbott can not repeal it because Greens/labor control the senate.

All this babbling and you all ignore AGW and the fact emissions are going up up up and increasing populations and 100’s of millions in developing countries are increasing their per capita emissions out-put, ensuring emission will continue to rise.

You’ll be blabbing on about the pros and cons of this crap market mechanism while the country languishes due to AGW.

Looks like the Greens would rather be seen to be fighting for reducing emissions rather than fight to stave off the affects of AWG, which are surely coming.

No it won't.  Don't be silly.

Firstly - we don't have a "carbon tax" - we have an emissions trading scheme with a 3 year fixed price period.
Secondly - in the unlikely event we do have an "Abbott Government" - he will still not control the Senate and will not repeal anything.

you are obviously not reading much lately.  The strong likelihood is that the Greens will lose two senators  and Katter will gain one.  If this happens, while Abbott will not have a majority, the balance of power will be held by Mr X and/or the Katter senator.  That means the end of the CT in quick order.  and the mining tax.

suck it up!

Yes - you are absolutely correct that emissions are going up up up and increasing populations and 100’s of millions in developing countries are increasing their per capita emissions out-put, ensuring emission will continue to rise.

That is why it is vital that rich countries such as us move to a low carbon economy as quickly as possible so that low carbon technology is available cheaply for developing countries.

Big market opportunity there.  We are letting it go to waste

how is it a 'big market opportunity' to invest trillions in these low-carbon developments and then flog them off cheaply to other countries??

cant half tell you've never been anywhere near a business!

Have you looked up the US Clean Air Act yet?

Remember - you told us that:

there are no examples of ETS' actually working anywhere.

Another stupid Policy on the run decision by Kevin Rudd, tying the Carbon Price to Europe is a masterpiece of stupidity, we could be looking at paying double what we are now, which in itself is ludicrous.

Bring on Abbott who will get rid of this iniquitous tax.

Once again Rudd has demonstrated his ability to drop this Country in the deep end of the sh.t.

I believe the Americans call it - "cap-and-trade":
http://www.epa.gov/capandtrade/documents/ctresults.pdf

Another name for emissions trading.

It was and is very successful.

You should learn how to read and comprehend before you call people a "dumb moron" and accuse them of "unbelievable stupidity".
