As for democracy, did you know that the first Islamic Caliphs were elected in a similar fashion to how the Australian prime minister is? The Islamic state had a council drawn up of representatives of prominent members of the public. And there was a even a representative for women.

The twelve-member jury system was developed in the Islamic world about 1200 years ago. The idea of trusts also was developed in Islam before Crusaders brought the idea back to England.

The methodology of legal precedent and reasoning by analogy were also used to derive Islamic law long before it was adopted in the West.





There are a lot of fascists in this country whose ideas are not exactly compatible with democracy.

Sounds like you are promoting regionalism. A divisive policy that is undemocratic. We saw Howard elected in such a system with less that 50% of the votes in 1998.

Everybody knows that people in safe seats get largely ignored in a regionalist system.

The regionalist system that Australia inherited from Britain was devised to give the rich ruling classes of each area a say in the British parliament. Australia does not have lords and nobility or a class system, so the system is clearly outdated.

However, there is no reason to think that Islam and democracy are incompatible, as there are precedents for electing a leader - as was the case of the early caliphs.

There was even a history of female representation in Islam.



The other assertion is that everybody in Australia must be some kind of anarchist liberal who thinks that anything goes. That idea is kind of a contradiction in terms; "we are liberal - as long as you think exactly like us".

You have to wonder if Freediver, or whichever alias he uses at the moment, would have the orthodox Jews, or the Catholics, or the Marxists, or the Christian Brethren, or the Evangelicals forced to believe in his system of no rules.
