Show me a sane person who takes Islam seriously.
It's a joke. It worked 800-1000 years ago but now - it's a stupid joke. It is as anachronistic as you can possibly get in this age.
Islam is not of this age.
To put it in your terms Soren, Jediism is also a joke - but if there were 1.5 billion of them across the world, creating a massive political movement that is at the centre of political upheaval and violence across the world - you would be insane not to take it seriously.
You still don't get it - very Islamic of you, that.
Here's the long version for you and all other literalistic,
legalistic Muslims and wannabe Muslims:
Show me a sane person who takes Islam seriously
as a compass for his own existence, as a guide to and sustainer of his own and his contemporaries' ethical, moral, spiritual, philosophical, imaginative, theological life. The Koran and Islam are so obviously fraudulent and exploitative that taking them seriously, even with allowances for the inevitable serene bits, is just ridiculous.
None of this means, of course, that the million of people who do take Islam as a guide to life are not
to be taken seriously as threats to civilisation insofar as they are
partisans of Islam.
Your silly hair splitting on this is as good an example as any of Islam's excrutiating rationality. rationality not in the sense of reasonableness - Islam lacks
reasonableness (ie compromise with particular circumstances) to a a startling degree - but in the sense of
excessively legalistic, black-letter, cold and de-contextualised reasoning to the letter of the law.
In this it is a parody of Judaism, which is also concerned with the law but which is forever being interpreted and re-contextualised. And of course it is completely alien to the Christian view which emphasises the importance of sense (and context) over the rigidity of the (rabbinical, Koranic, black-letter) law.
Partisans.
I like that word.
It is a 'descriptive', honest word.
