The Koran and Islam are so obviously fraudulent and exploitative that taking them seriously, even with allowances for the inevitable serene bits, is just ridiculous.

None of this means, of course, that the million of people who do take Islam as a guide to life are not to be taken seriously as threats to civilisation insofar as they are partisans of Islam.

Your silly hair splitting on this is as good an example as any of Islam's excrutiating rationality. rationality not in the sense of reasonableness - Islam lacks reasonableness (ie compromise with particular circumstances) to a a startling degree - but in the sense of excessively legalistic, black-letter, cold and de-contextualised reasoning to the letter of the law.

I understand thats what you meant Soren. However you still fail to understand that thats not what Brian meant when he says he takes islam seriously. Thats where your problem is.

And you also take islam seriously, as does Yadda and Baron, and all the other islamophobes here. You hate and fear islam because you are terrified it will either blow you up on a airplane, or force you to adopt sharia law. Thats why you are here all the time attempting to "outsmart" muslims and the islamic faith. Otherwise you wouldn't be dedicating so much time here trying to prove something to yourself. So please don't give me that schtick that you don't take it seriously.

Soren was attempting to rebut Brian's claim that he takes Islam "seriously" - by challenging him to cite which islamic tenets he lives by. He is clearly confused in thinking that taking islam "seriously" must necessarily involve adhering to the tenets of islam - as opposed to not trivialising a mass religion that includes 20% of the world, and has enormous global political reach.

I don't care what he thinks about what "sane people" must think about the tenets of islam - I was only pointing out that that strawman wasn't based upon anything that Brian said - as he originally thought. I also added my spiel about the fact that islamophobes like Soren, who are so obsessed with coming here to bash islam, also take islam seriously - otherwise they wouldn't be here.

How about you FD - do you take islam seriously?
