The problem with the costings argument
Aug 13th, 2013 at 8:40pm

Labor understands that Tony's numbers simply can't add up, but the problem is the electorate doesn't care.  It is abundantly clear that the electorate is happy to hear that things will be better under tony, without actually knowing what that actually means.  At least it looks like the media, that is meant to provide the electorate information, doesn't seem to care.  Instead, they've decided that the only thing important in a debate is that the candidate can simply string two sentences together but not worry about substance.  That's why we hear how tony was so good, telling us he will stop the boats, end the carbon tax and make everything else better.  Who cares what this means, he will make things better.

The problem is for those of us actually concerned about the economy is that we want to know what better means.  We want to know how it makes sense to scrap the carbon tax but keep compensation designed specifically for it.  We want to know how the numbers stack up.  We want to know how jt makes sense that aged care will be better but tony plans to place further strain on 3.2 future and present pensioners.  And we want to know 1 day before polling day what cuts tony is planning on to fund his extra spending and at the same time end the waste and bring the budget into surplus.

But who cares what the keen political observer wants. Who cares what those of us who
Consider economy our number one issue want.  Instead we simply get to know things will be better.
