Tony Windsor has said something sensible
Aug 22nd, 2013 at 11:03am

Not that it will ever wash away his heinous sin of supporting Gillard for three years.

What he said was that the parental leave shemes of both parties (we musn't say paid maternity leave, that would be sexist, one of the greatest crimes of the 21st century) are examples of a welfare system gone mad.
We've reached a point where people no longer believe they have any responsibility to look after themselves but that the government should do it.
He went on to say that, as an economy, we can't afford to go further & further down this track, we can't fund it.
I agree with him 100%.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

Fair enough, but he has said something sensible before "I am stepping down"   Grin Grin Grin Grin

I am always opposed to social engineering exercises, imposing such policies will just make employment and promotions more problematic for women, the complete opposite of the intended purpose of such policies.

You can't force employers to be nice people.

In fact such policies might do the opposite.

How many refugees will benefit from Abbott's generous baby bonus? A lot I would think considering that they tend to have higher fertility rates than the locals.

Abbott's plan must seem very attractive to refugees who want to start a family.

Wait till word of Abbott's baby bonus spreads around the world. Will Australia be swamped?

Stop the boats! Stop Abbott's baby bonus!

bogy you dont need to be a genius to know that.....

its pathetic..look at Europe we keep hearing how all those countries have paid maternity leave.. and look at them either at war with themselves...in DEBT up to their eyebrows... at war with their own govts...

and we cant wait to play catchup..

let this mindless generation stand on its own feet...stop wanting someone else to pay their way through life...

we never had unemployment benefits FHB..baby bonus..or paid maternity leave.. and we survived..

The government and by extension,  the people, have allowed our society to become dependant on 2 incomes per family. It is obvious that you need the government, us, to help in part to nuture creation without the realisation that you will have to fail financially in order to achieve it.
