Coles Prices are Up! Up! Up!
Aug 26th, 2013 at 6:49pm

Well I've been singing the praises of Aldi for some time but I admit to doing a top up shop at the bright and breezy Coles Supermarket at Katoomba.

I only had a small basket load so I went for the self check out.

That was when it hit. I checked the tab and couldn't see why it was so expensive.

Then it hit, Coles were charging a whopping $3.32 a kilo for brushed potatoes.

Should have known better, too lazy to go back to Aldi where I forgot them. On a later check the same potatoes at Aldi were $1.50 a kilo.

Like I have said before, you'll get me once but you won't get me twice.

Coles are smart, they mark goods as having been ,marked down, when in fact in many times they haven't reduced it a single cent. e.g. I bought Black chia seeds, had the marked down tag, but it was the same price as the fortnight previous I had bought it.

What a load of old cobblers you are Coles.

Prices are up! up! up!

Go Big Red. I go for the special spuds at Flemington Market on Fridays. They are $3:50 a kg but they're the creme de la creme, i.e., dutch cream, king edward, idaho, kipfler, royal blue, etc.

I wouldn't go into a Coles store, even if they were the only shop in town.

I wouldn't say Coles prices on potatoes are up, exactly. They have never been down. Wink

You just have to pick your supermarket to suit the goods. Aldi has quite cheap fruit and vegie prices, but Coles has a much wider range of products and some things you just can't get in Aldi. Plus it has better hours and service.

But when it comes to grocery prices, what goes down must come up.. eventually. That's what I find. Sad

Anyone tried Costco? The idea of paying a yearly subscription fee to enter a glorified supermarket doesn't sit well with me.

What's glorified about Costco?

I'd pay $50 a year to save $4000, any saving over the initial subscription fee is better off in my pocket.

Aldi staff is always polite and professional and the service is super fast.

If you mean someone doesn't pack your groceries for you, I'll take the huge savings and pack my own any day.

No I don't mean no one packs the groceries. I meant you pay a subscription in order to shop at Costco, which as far as I am concerned is... a shop/supermarket complex. I've shopped there a few times (friend has a card). I personally don't think the savings would come out anywhere near $4000 a year for my family as I found it didn't have a lot of the brands/flavours we like. And as for the other goods such as TV, I have other ways to get a good price.
But to each his own-people need to shop where it is going to suit them the best.

costco is for large families I think...then you may indeed save if you can be bothered buying by the truck load..what you save is because you are buying in bulk...plus you need a day to go over the whole place....I am not that keen on shopping..or their quiche..
