Should Public Servants Vote For Liberal.

LIVE: 2013 Federal Election - Day 24

From our correspondents on the campaign trail
    News Limited Network
    August 28, 2013

THE coalition has found $31.6 billion of savings over the next four years to pay for its election promises.

The biggest saving will be reducing the public service by 12,000 people, saving $5.2 billion over the budget forward estimates. Discontinuing business compensation measures from abolishing the carbon tax will save $5.1 billion, while there are a number of savings from scrapping the minerals resource rent tax (MRRT).   Shocked

Shadow treasurer Joe Hockey said the savings made up the "great bulk'' of those the coalition needed to find.

Kevin Rudd, meanwhile, had a slip of ther tongue about Syria, referring to the means of the attack which killed hundreds of families and injured thousands more as a "weapon of mass distraction'' before correcting himself.

Meanwhile, things have been sweet for Tony Abbott as he toured Hobart's Cadbury choclolate factory.

Tonight Mr Rudd and Mr Abbott will have a chance to argue about costings and temperament when they face off just hours after their treasurers also go head to head in a debate.

The pair will clash at a people's forum at the Rooty Hill RSL Club in Sydney tonight, hours after Mr Hockey and Treasurer Chris Bowen have a debate at the National Press Club in Canberra at noon.      Smiley

if they are only going to cut 12,000 then maybe they should look at wage reductions.

Voters believe job security, cost of living, work rights would be worse under a Coalition Government
A group of workers
28 August, 2013 | Media Release Voters believe many aspects of life from rights at work to cost of living would be worse under an Abbott government, new polling shows.

Essential Research polling commissioned by the ACTU found that the only things people thought would improve were conditions for business.

Job security, education, health, public services and housing affordability were all expected to get worse, with rights for workers and cost of living expected to fare worst of all.

“With less than two weeks to go, at a time many voters are making up their minds, it’s clear Tony Abbott isn’t inspiring confidence that he will act to improve ordinary people’s lives,” said ACTU President Ged Kearney.

“People are more inclined to think their own job security and their own financial situation would be worse rather than better under an Abbott Government.

“Meanwhile they believe business will be the winners, especially big business.

“As we head into the final stretch of the election campaign, we’re looking for a lot more clarity from the Coalition about their plans – particularly in regards to workers’ rights and cuts to public services.

“As voters make up their minds they should consider the choices on offer and consider whether the government they elect is really going to act in their interests.”

Should Public Servants Vote For Liberal.

Why would they?

Liberals are Laissez-faire capitalists, it's purely about the invisible hand and letting the market find it's own balance for them, with no consideration for the human social costs and while making as much profit as possible in the process. The public service is an aritifical sector that couldn't justify their own existence in the type of economic environment the Liberals would preside over. Don't expect any innovation or initiatives for the future outside of economic strategies and as a lapdog to US policy.

Liberal idealogy are about making as much as possible RIGHT NOW and worry about the future later (or not at all, after all if we make LOTS OF MONEY NOW, it will surely trickle down the line to those at the bottom..). The Liberals represent most, the form of capitalism that has brought us to the point we are at today in the world and Labor is only slightly to the left of that.

Gee $12billion a year in interst alone and you only have to be slightly left to the liberal party.

Doesnt take much in order for the people to have so little choice but be pure slaves to debt does it. Imagine if the greens were in total control. There wouldnt be anything left after paying their leftist interest bill.

Double post.

This forum is very annoying to use. There is way too much lag for a simple forum. There are too many scripts trying to run that are unnecessary. Posts I make don't show up on some lists and show up on others. The chronology of posts seems to invert itself often. Quoting a post with a link in it if you have less than 100 posts is annoying.

A forum like this should need one connection to a server and because it's just text should be lightning fast. There is a reason for all the slow, gluggyness and in my experience with other forums, that's usually down to nothing positive.

Public servants voting Liberal would be like French aristocrats supporting the guillotine.

There is no guarantee 12,000 jobs will be vacated in four years. Some who leave will have to be replaced if their roles are essential.

This is smoke and mirrors.

We must not forget Labor in QLD had the public service so bloated that they could afford to pay for little else in that state...
