I would like to know what the supplementary grant was for in the first place. Surely it would be better to just put pensions or allowances up by $2 a week.
I do find it objectionable that a party would clamp down on some grants, yet intend to implement paid maternity leave that would give up to $75,000 to some of our top income earners. If we need to start saving money, cutting down on middle class welfare would be a good start.

the supplement was money already spent but the income not accounted for.

It is all well and good to get your panties in a bunch, but you do realise this little tax has collected nearly bugger all since it was conceived. So the dole recipients we never going to get any money from the mining tax, because that tax was a worthless dud.
