just like how physics was supposed to prevent processors faster than 1Ghz and hard drives bigger than 1Gb and... you get the drift.  The supposed limits of physics seem to be routinely broken where technology is concerned.  Remember how copper wires would never take more than 56kbps?  now I takes 100Mbps.  I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the 'this is impossible' predictions.

No.

Completely different scenario, completely different issue.

Completely different solution.

Labor's NBN is far too expensive and will be obsolete by the time they have rolled it out. The cost blow-out has already made the Labor government into the liars we have come to hate and expect.

And BANG! goes your credibility right there.

The speed of light will NOT be becoming obsolete in the foreseeable future.

and on the subject of 'bang goes your credibility...'.  what speed do you think data travels along copper????  let me give you a hint... SPEED OF LIGHT.  You are probably one of those clowns who a few years ago on here said that wirelss was inferior because I travelled (yes this is true!!) at the speed of sound!!!

nope.  you are wrong, again.  the history of technology is replete with examples of 'impossibilities' being achieved.  After all, travel faster than 25km/hr was at one time supposed to be the limit of human endurance.

We have the telegraph, plus telegram delivery boys - on bicycles! We don't need your goddamned telyophone!!  Roll Eyes

And copper wire - pure extravagance! Iron is cheaper and stronger. The wire  being stronger, the poles can be further apart. We save on both wire and poles.  Roll Eyes

And a line for each house - such waste! Party lines work just fine, why do we need our own line?

You want to put the lines underground? Overhead wires were good enough for the Overland Telegraph. Overhead wires worked for that, why won't they work for your new-fangled luxury? Putting them underground is a waste.

El58, in principle, all things are possible. The question is of probabilities. You imply that, in physics, all knowledge and theory are necessarily wrong. That being so, I have a challenge for you.

As you would be aware, gravity is nothing but a bunch of theories. Your mission is to find a drop of at least 50 metres. Walk to about ten metres from the edge. Run toward the edge and launch yourself into the void.

In theory, the exercise should be fatal, but only a fool would believe that, right? Either way, you'll do the population of this planet a favour.

BY the time they get it finished there will be something new invented that doesn't involve cables, I'm thinking Wi Fi will be so superior in a decade that this cable thing will belong in a museum.

SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DID I MENTION SIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you think a wifi connection runs off?

Is it magic?

A wifi connection runs off a fixed connection - LIKE THE NBN!!!!!!!!

If your talking about Cellular - Good luck with that one!

I can't be bothered (yet again) to explain why the nbn is the best technological solution.

Unless we can break the laws of physics and another medium comes out that can transmit data at 126 pettabits a second, fibre is it.

75% of Australian's won't have any benefit from fttn - unless you install a cabinet every 500 meters and even then those on pair gains/degraded copper have no hope.

Good luck with your "theories".

Those who understand the technologies at play will be having a discussion based in reality.

BTW - can I have some of what your smoking, it must be pretty good.

Which point was that? That physics has never proven to limit technology?

How does one argue insanity? Or is it trolling?

the point was always to mock the buffoons who seem to think that current tech can never be replaced or that the laws of physics restrict any improvements.  We've already had the clowns who seem unaware that electricity travels at approx. the speed of light as does wires.  Some thought is travelled at the speed of sound.

This is not a very intelligent group of people.

You can't point to where anyone has said anything of the sort, can you?

What has been said is that fibre is the best solution for the medium to long term. For mine, the Coalition's plan is so poor that it's obviously designed to fail. They'll spend billions of taxpayer's dollars, only to sell the resulting failure cheaply to their mates in business.

Physics doesn't matter? Delusional much!

We've been down this rabbit-hole before. If there's a technology that will rival the terrabits/second potential of fibre within the lifespan of the NBN, it will be past proof-of-concept and into commercial development by now. You should therefore have no difficulty substantiating your assertion that developments in copper or wireless will make fibre obsolete.

Put up or take up my challenge.

NBN to save families $3800 a year

The NBN is probably dead tomorrow and we are heading back to the dark ages in communications because it benefits our countries new leader Mr Murdoch.
