The voting thread

Well I just did my bit for Simon Sheikh's bid - Greens - 1 above the line.

Andrew Leigh is a shoe-in for Fraser, with an 18% margin - so I voted 1 the Green candidate, and 2 Leigh. The only difficult decision was whether to put racist islamophobes or liberals last.

Couldn't help but chuckle at the archaic system we have - guy looks my name up in a massive paper book, then I mark the voting card with a pencil, fold it up and put it in a box. Not a computer in sight.

I would be interested to hear everyone elses voting experience

Well this election as with nearly every previous election, I intend to:

1 Get out of bed, have breakfast

2. Do something I enjoy like fishing or at worst go to work for a couple of hoursand earning more money

3 Whip down to the tackle shop check out the fishing gear, maybe pick up some more lures

4. Have lunch

5. Crack open a beer / go fishing / both

6. Have Dinner and more beer

7. Watch the results on TV and laugh my arse off at the losers trying not to cry

Things I won't be doing

1 Going to a polling place

2 Standing in line being annoyed by everyoe around me

3. Getting my name marked off the roll

4 Defacing a ballot paper

5. Going home feeling violated and used

I know my day will a lot better than most of you lot, but that is the norm anyway Smiley

So you take our democracy for granted BigOl.

If we ever descend into a tyrannous autocratic state, I will be most disappointed if I see you kicking up a stink about it.

I served this country for 10 yrs so it could be democratic, Ive paid my dues, now Im done
They can take their taxes and don't speak to me and we'll both get along fine.

When you can show how having the right to vote has caused nearly every first world democracy to decend into a tyrannous autocratic state, then we can talk.

WEntire democracy function just fine without forcing people to the polls

I'll just watch with interest.

Despite being Australian, the rules don't permit me to vote.
