With the possible makeup in the senate, could be viewed as prompt karma for Abbott, if one believes in karma.

This coming bad government will be all on his shoulders.

you mean like when the libs honoured labors mandate for an ETS ????

no, like how the libs honoured the mandate on Workchoices.  Its called ethics.  look it up.

libs got slaughtered because of work choices and only because of workchoices   .... labor didn't lose this election because of the carbon tax or any other policy, they lost it because of 3 yrs of bad politics  ...

so good to hear.  you can negotiate with the rest but not the Greens.

Yep toothless Greens will be an excellent result.

Palmer party, DLP, Xenaphon. Family First, Liberal Democrats are the others.  Different looking Senate.  Most being anti-carbon tax.

What will it take to win Family Firsts Senators Vote Mr Abbott, creationism in the science class.

What of Pauline's One Nation's Vote, kick out muslims.

And Mr Palmer, he has a score to settle with Mr Abbott.

Oh this is going to be so much fun.

The Liberal Democratic Party polled more than the Greens in NSW.

I almost voted for them by accident myself.  I think they got lots of votes from people that thought they were voting for the LIB / NATS....

They may have the balance.... Shocked

At least the coalition don't hold absolute power in the senate.

It will be interesting to see how the senate works with so many minor parties.

most importantly it is a group that can be negotiated with.  Several TV commentators made the point that the the Greens are just flat-out 'no' in the senate so they have to negotiate with others.

some of the comments I heard tonight were that they got a lot of votes accidentally. How is this even allowed to happen? A finger to democracy isn't it?

you keep telling yourself that. Libs now have a comprehensive and undeniable mandate for the removal of the Carbon Tax and a senate likely to repeal it.  so bugger off.

Xenophon is against carbon pricing.

Greens require the balance and Labor to stick to principle over danderous climate change.

Correction,

That roadblock is Nick Xenophon, who has confirmed he will be digging in his heels on Direct Action, which he has called "clunky and inefficient". He told Business Spectator on Sunday: "I will not support the repeal [of Labor's carbon tax legislation] unless there is a Frontier-style scheme on the table."

http://www.businessspectator.com.au/article/2013/9/2/election/xenophon-wont-back...

Xenophon will play hardball to get his vote to repel.

But what are the senate results?

Don't know for sure yet, but Anthony Green and Kerry O'Brien predict that the Greens have lost the balance of power

a new and hopefully smarter leader than rudd or Gillard might finally work out that the electorate HATES the carbon tax.  It destroyed Gillard and it destroyed Labor.  It would be in their best interest to repeal it when it comes before parliament in the next few months as a matter of honour rather than fight it, earn the electorates continued wrath and then have the new senate repeal it anyhow.

There is everything to lose and nothing to gain by refusing to repeal the carbon tax.

not sure why you keep trying to convince me, I've told you several times what I think of your mandate .... they'd be stup1d to give Abbott his way ...

it's to run opposition the way Abbott did .... block , block, block ... after all, it worked for Abbott.

Take away the price on carbon and you'll eventually lose your authority to govern in the future. When reality hits, those politicians that fostered denialism and fought action will become unelectable.

'Authority to govern' comes from where???  THE PEOPLE.  'The people' don't take too kindly to having that authority denied them.  They shafted Gillard and Rudd and Labor over the Carbon Tax tonight.  you really want to go round two on that?  At what point does a party that actually stands for democratic principles accept the unequivocal verdict of the people?  You (and nutters like Shorten) are adopting the Mugabe version of democracy.  Which seems only fair since you pinched his election slogan!

Its time to let democracy have a chance to be heard.
