the independant is an ex national party member. i dont think she'll be lining up with the left

shes also on record as applauding Abbott during the campaign

Anyhow, with a 30+ seat majority, Abbott doesn't need her vote.

None of this matters. Mirabella's gone. Good riddance to Liberal party deadwood.

Au Contraire...  the only thing that DOES matter is that Abbott has a large majority with or without Sophie.  I think you find that most peoples care factor is small.  plus she has been replaced by an independent with very obvious pro-abbot sympathies.  Not exactly a win for you lefties.

Ex-National so-called 'conservative' independent? How do we know that Mrs McGowan is not another Windsor or Oakeshott?

McGowan will be twice the local member Sophie was, which wouldn't be hard.

Sophie tried to blame the greens, ALP, getup and vested interests instead of looking in the mirror for her terrible performance. The ALp did nothing in indi because it knew it hadno chance and wasn't going to spend a cent.

What was interesting, not one single tv or radio commercial for sussan ley, yet Sophie was bombarding them night and day for weeks

Her downfall was because of sexism, just like Gillard's.

Really? If Sophie is elected, they will have the Minister for Industry as their local MP, ie, a frontbencher of an incumbent government.

And what does Sussan Ley have to do with the price of tea in China?

Sussan ley is across the river and share the same local broadcasters for news. Also, did you see the nice peice a week ago where major local identities slammed Sophie for claiming in election pamphlets credit for projects she had nothing to do with. Sophie has delivered zip for indi.

Tell me Matty, what do you regard as the worst peice of legislation passed by the Gillard government?

I know who Sussan Ley is, I just don't see any relevance.

As I said, Verge, how do we know that Mrs McGowan is not another Windsor or Oakeshott, ie an ex-Nat, pretending to be a conservative? Also, as I said the people of Indi would have a government frontbencher as their local representative.

The worst piece of legislation was the carbon tax.

Do you not find it interesting that ley increased her lead without the need for advertising, yet 100 meters away Sophie bombarded the electorate.

Why, because ley is a local rep with reputation. Sophie spends most of her time in Melbourne and doesn't give a toss about her electorate.

Indi was and is heavily opposed to the carbon tax. Where was the member for indi when this vote was conducted and why weren't they represented?

Considering a chunk of mcgowans election was funded by national party people, it's unfair to call her an oakeshott or Windsor.

Not looking great for Sophie!

Oh well - sucks to be her then!

Yesterday she seemed to be in the prime position with the conservative absentee vote still to come. What happened today?

This is someone that wouldn't lift a finger to help when someone loses consciousness while sitting next to her on live television. Make no mistake, she is not a nice person.

I would probably be just as bad. When that happens, not everybody responds appropriately. Sophie is off the hook as far as I'm concerned.
