Hey Verge, I'm asking you this because I gather you are in Mirabella's electorate. I read something today that said that when Rudd delivered the sorry speech SM went about her electorate calling out to indigenous constituents "Not Sorry". Sounds extraordinary that someone would do such a thing. Have you ever heard of anything like that happening. Not very nice if it did, IMO She didn't sit in Parliament because she said that were no official "stolen" children, IIRC. If I were a politician at the time, there's no way that I would have sat in there either. Why wouldn't you have sat there. Does your hatred really run that deep? No, I just don't believe that the 'stolen' generation was necessarily a bad thing, nor am I sorry for something that I didn't do. Are you a parent? I just cant believe that you could be a parent to say something so selfish, detached and cruel as that. As far back as 1915 a Victorian Parliamentarian described what was happening as "children being stolen" because children were being taken from their parents without any evidence that they were in need or being mistreated. Justice Wilson, formally of the High court, investigated this whole thing and when he wrote his report saw fit to include the word "Stolen" in the title of his report because he thought it accurately described what had happened. And after all that and the untold misery that people suffered having their families being torn apart, all you can think of was that it wasn't you so why should you say sorry. Its all about "me" with Liberals. How can you build a community with people who are all about "ME" No, I am not a parent, I am only 23. The whole fact is that many Aboriginal children were being neglected, and were better off without their birth parents. Read Justice Wilson's report if its the truth and not racism that drives you. One day when you grow up and are ever a father you might reflect back on your attitude today and realise how petty you were to deny those people a simply sorry for the horror of having their families torn asunder. What's the bet that you are some trendy living somewhere like Marrickville or Richmond? I care very much about the well-being of children, and the fact is that many of the children that were 'stolen' actually had better lives than they otherwise would have. Of course not all did, and I don't deny that many were mistreated at the hands of white people, but I am not racist, just someone who observes the facts from both ends, and am not going to go on a guilt trip about something that happened 200 years ago. The kids were taken for a variety of reasons, not all because they were abused, some where taken because they wanted to breed out the full blooded abos by mixing them with white people .... maybe you shouldn't comment on things that are beyond you , proving your stupidity beyond a doubt will do you no good in the long term. Note that I said 'some'.
