What's the current cost of the NBN?  $60 Billion dollars?

Ok 250,000 people signed the petition.

If each of you people that signed the petition donate $250,000 towards the establishment cost of the NBN there'd be no need to flay us poor taxpayers.

Do YOU have a spare 250 Grand?????

Actually I got a better idea. Not lowering  the company tax rate and increasing it to what we all pay.  Reduce the numerous and outlandish number of tax deductions they give to business. Make companies and business pay a minimum amount of tax no matter how many deductions they claim and bring back the original resources tax So that you blokes stop flaying the poor taxpayer and we can get a decent NBN for the benefit of all not JUST YOU.

yeah that will only cost about 2 million jobs and devastate the economy.  you should go work for Mugabe.

Equitable share? That's hogwash.

The majority of tax is paid by a minority of people.

The lion's share of the cost of Govt / infrastructure is already being paid for by a small minority.

The top 9% of people pay 49% of income tax
The top 40% of people pay 90% of income tax
The bottom 60% pay 10% only
The bottom 25% pay zero, not a zac, effall.

If you're saying there's inequity in that, then you'll have to point it out.

LOL...  like I said...  'equitable' is when OTHER people pay your tax - according to the smacking buggerhead.

it is hard to do anything but laugh at clowns like him.  LOWER taxation rates is a stimulus to employment and the reverse is just as true.

I just did.... Grin

Let's look at the NBN and its price tag of around $60 Billion these days.

YOU think my suggestion that the 200,000 petitioners should pay for the NBN is inequitable?

Using the above stats (Source;  ATO)

$60,000,000,000  - Price tag of NBN

Who will be paying for the NBN now?

9% of people are paying for 49% of it. ($29 Billion)

40% of people are paying for 90% of it ($54 Billion)

25% (ONE QUARTER) of people pay
ZERO

You think this is equitable? Grin Grin

No it isn't.  Equitable has a more complex definition and since it is based on the term EQUAL that is your clue.

your definition is the definition of socialism.

Which is why 100% tax on net profit is not such a silly idea. It could encourage investment over profiteering.

Higher business taxation would facilitate lower personal taxation. Perhaps eliminating personal taxes, and the costs associated with collecting them, entirely. Collecting taxes from fewer entities just has to be a money-saver, now doesn't it?

I reckon it's as equitable as expecting those who campaign for water reticulation, sewerage, roads, etc. to pay for what is, after all, public infrastructure.

If those who can afford most end up paying most, then yes. Remember, this is a public good, not private property.

Assuming you're referring to me, though a self-funded retiree, I've been fortunate enough that my investment income attracts tax.
