The NBN is massively behind (only meeting 20% of targets) and with huge budget blowouts and contractors abandoning ship over payments.

They are resigning to avoid being sacked.

It is understood the NBN rollout will fall significantly short of its target set in August last year to run fibre past 1.31 million premises by the end of this financial year. The number of existing premises to be passed is now believed to be as low as 600,000.

Thats 45.8% of targets, not 20%.

I have heard it reported as FAR lower.  and the 600,000 remains an estimate and we know how dodgy some of those NBN figures have been in the past.

It met its target of 207,000 back in June though.

the targes keep getting reduced and they still keep missing it by a mile.  This is what I mean to the bozos that seem to think that australias largest ever infrastructure project could ever finish on time and on budget.  They are already way of budget and way under-delivering.  AS if anyone expected anything different!

They were way off on the revised target at all.  It was revised in November to be 190-220 and delivered 207.

I acknowledge it is well over budget.

its the communist Russia approach.  you restate your targets repeatedly so that when the bad news eventuates, they can claim accuracy.  Bottom line is that at the current rate, half the population will die before it is completed.  That's why NBN is being fundamentally altered: so that it can actually be completed.

Quote:
Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has released an "interim statement of expectations" to NBN Co, setting new targets and asking it to keep rolling out fibre to the premises until a review is complete.

Forecasts for the number of premises passed by fibre cable have been revised down.

The figure is expected to be 729,000 by June 30, 2014, 1.74 million by June 20, 2015, and 3.115 million by June 30, 2016.
