ALP to pursue quota system.

Shorten flags indigenous ALP quotas

Labor leadership aspirant Bill Shorten has flagged changing the party's rules to set a quota for indigenous candidates.

The ALP has a 40 per cent quota for female candidates, but has no such aim in terms of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders.

Mr Shorten told a Per Capita forum in Melbourne on Wednesday the party should think 'freely and openly' as it considers new ideas to revitalise after the September 7 election loss.

'(We should) consider quotas for sections of the community that are under represented in our state and federal parliaments,' Mr Shorten said.

'And I especially think here of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait islanders.'

Mr Shorten said the party also needed to boost its effort to ensure women make up 40 per cent of all candidates, through the involvement of women on selection panels, and better mentoring.

'A rule is not a rule unless the spirit is supported,' he said.

Mr Shorten is taking on former deputy prime minister Anthony Albanese in a leadership ballot involving the caucus and grassroots members. The result of the ballot will be known on October 13.

The right faction powerbroker said the era of 'small cabals of people making decisions' should come to an end.

He recommended more community-based preselections for candidates, a dropping of the two-year membership requirement to vote in internal elections and the use of technology such as Skype to allow people to attend branch meetings.

Mr Shorten said the election result had been 'sobering news', but the party was moving forward.

'Labor after the election hasn't crumpled into a heap,' he said.

'Instead we are saying we can do this, we are proud of who we are ... and we can learn from our mistakes.

where is the gay/lesbian quote?  where is the Christian quota?  where is the (ahem!) MALE quota...

Id be a lot happier if the quota was for COMPETENCE rather than these other irrelevant traits.

In Shorten the ALP has come up with another objectional pharisaic unflushable turd.  The ALP is tralatitious in nature which in this case is nothing to be proud of. The ALP is incapable of reform as long as it continues its charade of claiming to be the only occupant of the high moral ground. Does anyone remember this:

Quote:
Racial discrimination is when a person is treated less favourably than another person in a similar situation because of their race, colour, descent, national or ethnic origin or immigrant status.

.. and the pensioners, the blind the halt and the lame, the insane, the Buddhists, Maori ex-patriates and Pacific Islanders, Pakeha ex-patriates, Rhodesian ex-patriates etc.... the unemployed need representation somewhere somehow.... before they fade into dust....

You know (*pulls up chair for fireside chat)....I think there are far greater issues affecting our country at this time than quota representation.

We, the ordinary people, have had a hell of a time at the hands of various of the Fifty Shades of Grey Government we've endured for the past thirty years or so - each of which has set in place a multitude of unpopular and often seriously disadvantaging policies and laws and such.

I seriously think the time is long overdue for a full revamp of such things as unemployment and income earned on the side, with a withdrawal of the very stupid vicious punishment that creates a host of New Criminals.. who oddly enough - then find it hard to get work  (hmmm)... how about a more lenient approach to a few bucks that the public servants and politicians who run the jihad against the 'low class' unemployed wouldn't get out of bed for?

We are enduring the Unemployment We Had To Have to suit technology and the whims of management and government, including such things as their never-ending 'gender equality' campaigns that continue to rip society apart and advantage some at the cost of the many, the focus on some 'right' of business to treat workers as serfs, and so forth, and governments  and their agencies, including the very courts sworn to uphold Right and not government policy, operating  out there without any civilised constraint, and breaking the Law time after time themselves in doing so.

What we need is for a RESPONSIBLE government to go back over those thirty years or so and make amends.

I suggest that we raise the drink driving level to 0.08 for a start - how many accidents actually occur at 0.05?  The ones you hear about are all at princely (or princessly) figures of .213, or .175 and so on, and surely the Guv doesn't NEED to continue with the lowest PCA in the world as a revenue gatherer, criminaliser and robber of incomes, and remover of rights and social equity from individuals?

What about the mandatory payment of welfare recipients of a minimum child support rate?  Now how stupid is a government to take from the poorest to give to some government body - that then does NOT, in many cases, forward that money on to the alleged recipient?  Why not cut all the bullshit and just put both on an adequate social security net?  After all, it is government's polices of ripping families apart and creating The Unemployment We Had To Have that put them there....

I'd suggest minimum wage at least for the dole and pensions, and the right to earn up to - say the equivalent of a politician's found money in Canberra - what - about $300 a day tax free?  Yeah - that sounds fair, but include dole and pension to make that total, OK?  Earn up to $1500 a week before you lose any dole or pension - as back pay for being a victim of the aforementioned Unemployment We Had To Have... that'd help cover the times of low to no incomes for a while... and produce equality....

Don't forget the average weekly earnings for Paid Parental Leave instead of goodies for the well-heeled at 50% of income not shared by their poorer bros and sis.  Average Weekly Earning for six months would do the unemployed single mum a world of good and certainly would work better towards gender and social equality.

As for boat people - bring em all I say!  Let's build nice resorts they can share with Japanese tourists, and we'll employ locals to cater to their needs.  That would keep the money inside Australia AND the economy, would salve our consciences, and would make it a reasonable deal to WANT to be an Australian - at least before the Reverse Tide of Aussies leaving the joint starts for real.  I mean - we can still send the undesirables back to Afghanistan for the New Taliban to kill off when they resume power.

We can always use the resorts later for more tourists and so forth or for retirement villages....

What we need here is FEWER prisons, not more, and we should be deporting all undesirables TO Afghanistan under a New Colonisation Scheme, as occurred with the founding of Australia.  Within a few years the place'd be a Christian paradise and worthy of tourism... we could send some of the more rapacious parking lot companies and council parking inspectors there to pave the place over and make it civilised with forest of parking meters.

Yes, I think there are many more important issues than Labor trying to suck up votes by yet more policies of exclusion - you know - oddly - when you mandate a fixed quota you EXCLUDE others of real merit......and there is no end to it... ever!

More next time on President Grappler's Fireside Chats....  good night and god bless you all, and god bless Australia - we need it!

Cheesy
