I've joined the Labor Party

I thought about it once when I was young but I disagree on too many issues, but good luck to you.

I was once a member of the Labor Party. Have been considering rejoining myself. If I was guaranteed a vote in the upcoming leadership vote, I would probably join today.

Not sure if I'll be inspired enough to join a party led by Shorten. Thinking about it reminds me why I let my membership lapse in the first place.

I have never joined anything.... but I am wondering.. when you are a member do you have any say at all in policies?????????.. do they ask for your opinion..???.

I would imagine most branches are full of unionists pushing their oars..I do worry about getting bogged down with one sided propaganda though and that would go for all political parties..... the devil belongs to the other side not ours Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I have no real preference in the option of leaders, I don't really know enough about either to separate them except to say that they both seem pretty good options from what I have seen of them.

I would think that the one who loses could find himself in the better position, the winner will have a few tough thankless years and who ever follows may enjoy the benefits of his predecessors hard work against a poor failing opposition.

It's been so long since I've been to a meeting, I'm probably not the best person to ask. The overriding memory I have from my last meeting was some girl banging on about East Timor (circa 1993). At the time I had no understanding of the issue, so I really wasnt paying attention. What was clear, however, was that she wasnt happy with Labor's position on East Timor, and she thought she could make a difference. Can't remember if she was able to pass her motion, I hope I didn't vote against it.

I'm yet to see someone unable to vote in "their own" country.

Right. You can't vote here either.

Interested in joining the Dunedin Libs?

I've thought of joining the Dunedin Libs, Matty, but no.

I'm more a political staffer. I work for the candidate.

I'm non-partisan.

I would encourage all moderates and progressive to join their local Liberal Party branch otherwise we'll be stuck with the far right fruitloops that have taken over the federal Libs.
The Labor Party and Greens dont need anymore lefties but the Liberal Party does...make changes from the inside

Do people really join political parties?

Are there funny handshakes, cool furry hats and regular picnics with jumping castles?

the only reason i would join the liberal party would be to try to push them to the right. they have drifted way too far to the left.

Best estimate of political party membership is about 112,000. This doesn't include PUP, who won't say, and the Nats, who don't seem to know!
