Anyway, they’re not so big a problem anymore. They’ve been downgraded to minor irritant.

Thats a coincidence because so has Peter Freedman.

It's baffling how we were responsible for deaths at sea when Rudd and Gillard were the leaders, remember the squawking of the righties....."blood on their hands, they've got blood on their hands"

enter Abbott

were not responsible for deaths at sea

crazy shenanigans!!!!....this government is just as responsible as the previous one was

Except this government is trying to stop people smuggling..

Thank heavens for that. That takes some of the pressure off Mr Abbott to stop the boats.

At least we can say he tried. The leftards can’t blame Mr Abbott for not making an effort.

After the Grand Final maybe.

Whereas in your case, no downgrade was necessary.

Or possible.

I don't know how far from Indonesia's littoral the boat was when it sank but let's assume it was 25k. The distance from the boat to the Canberra based Australian Maritime Safety Authority's Rescue Coordination Centre is approximately 3354 miles or 5398 kilometres if I am reading the data from the website correctly. If the boat was in trouble where should the distress call have been sent to?

If we had a fire that threatened the people of Katoomba would we expect the emergency call to be made to Broome WA?

bullshit panzi you utter moron...

this government didn't dismantle boarder protection.. Kevin Rudd did... so why are  you being a lying Rsole???

you are like that deadbeat "ian" who is using peoples death for political point scoring...

you ought to be ashamed of yourself,,,  Embarrassed
I have to laugh, the moron you voted in is frozen in the headlights. Everyone in Australia except you chucky can see him for the incomptetent he apparently is. He has nothing, he said his policy on the boats would make a difference from day one, the laughable thing is he doesnt have a policy and the only difference he is making is in seeing how much he can screw up foreign policy by offending the Indos., one of our biggest export markets. In 6 months even gumps like you will be praying for a change of government.

oh ok...

you'll happily give us all a link where abbott said that he'd make a difference from day one then "ian"

you are a lying piece of garbage who politically point scores on peoples deaths...

I think the boat people accidently sent the distress call to centrelink and not the emergency services which is the second most important number on their speed dial.

Its important to discern the difference between left and right reality here, to a righty a boat load of fake reffos getting picked up and taken back to Indonesia is a boat load of fake reffos getting taken back to Indonesia but to the left a boat load of fake reffos getting picked up and taken back to Indonesia really means they are still enroute and will be hitting a centrelink near you real soon  Grin

You didnt answer the question. Abbott isnt claiming he has turned a boat back, none of his government are claiming a boat has been turned back, no media outlet is claiming a boat has been turned back. So where is this top secret boat which has been turned back and only you know about?

Tony Abbott says his plan to stop the boats starts Wednesday

STOPPING the boats is a "stand or fall issue," Prime Minister-elect Tony Abbott acknowledged on Monday as he said Coalition efforts to stem the flow of asylum seekers starts on Wednesday.

"I am absolutely determined to stop the boats as quickly as we humanly can," he said.
"This is one of those stand or fall issues, it really is a stand or fall issue.
We will make a difference and we will start form day one."
