How many time did the liberal party use people deaths at sea for political point scoring?

Ummm, none.

You've been doing it since at LEAST 2009.

It has nothing to do with us Greg.

It's an Indonesian problem, not ours.

I'm a human being first, and an Australian after that.

I don't see people in trouble as any particular nationality.  They're just people, in need of assistance.

Agreed.

If a distress call is made from a boat in trouble to their country of destination - under international law we are responsible for rescuing them.

It doesn't matter if they were 5 metres from Indonesia - it's still no excuse for us to wriggle out of this.

Therefore - this government is responsible for the deaths.

Abbott can't face the cameras as usual. He has even been advised by Alexander Downer not to shirk his responsibility by sweeping it under the carpet. Abbott is scared. He remembers all he said and did to destroy Gillard and knows he's going to get some of it back. Bullies are also cowards.

It looks like the lefties are all for violating a countries seventy when it suits them, but not OK when it comes to turning back boats.

If the passengers were white and Christian (or Jewish, even), Australia would have been there in an instant.

So the Coalition government isn't responsible for the same things that the ALP government were?

The Coalition supporters sure have short memories - they used incidents like this how many times?

The Coalition made boat people an issue - they are reaping what they sewed.

Let it been a warning to people wanting to take the trip, We can only hope we have more of these boats sink so close to Indonesia. Boat sunk 50m off Indonesia's shore, Its clear these people have no idea of Australia's Culture because we teach our kids how to swim. What kind of people would put their own children's life at risk making such a trip and not teach their kids how to swim first. The parents of the children should be put to death.

I am grateful that I haven't ever had to face the kinds of problems that millions of refugees face and i hope I never have to.  I also can't help but wonder what lengths might any of us or our parents go to if we were placed in similar situations?

RIP to all those who died, so many of them were children.  How can you not be affected by that?

Shame on those attempting in this discussion, to use their deaths to score cheap political points.

people like ian (the forum nincompoop) and the others riding on his back should be ashamed of themselves...

2000 poor souls died due to your leftard policy position. Your attempts to place blame on anyone but yourselves is nothing short of despicable. But then again, you lot can justify anything in the name of 'being progressive'.

Dog sh1t on ya shoe has more integrity than you lot.

Wishing for the senseless death of more children, and calling for the murder of their parents.

It's such a shame that we have "people" like this in Australia.  It gives us all a bad name.  But then again, with a "leader" like Abbott it's hardly surprising that attitudes like this prevail.

I see it for what it is, Child abuse, I know child abuse is something you lefties get off on, Its Time to call a spade a spade, you put you kid on a boat without them knowing how to swim, then its clear. IT IS... CHILD ABUSE.
