Bob Hawke, eh? I think your Liberal Party history needs a little revising, Salad. I know they're not too fond of Malcolm Fraser, but they did invent multiculturalism.

The Liberals are a broad church.

STOP THE BOATS.

Wrong on 2 counts Karnal. I was referring to the 1988 Fitzgerald enquiry into immigration in which Fitzgerald said something along the lines of

Quote:
The recommendations and concerns of the FitzGerald report were strongly nationalistic: it called for the articulation of a national philosophy of
immigration in which 'emphasis is given to Australia, the Australian identity and commitment to Australia'.

"Australian Multiculturalism: Its Rise and Demise" by Brian Galligan and Winsome Roberts, University of Melbourne makes mention of Fitzgerald's findings and recommendations.

which had to be hosed down by Bob Hawke. That's when Hawke came out with the drivel about how it will enrich us etc.

I’m a bit unsure what this obscure reference has to do with, Salad, but if you’d like to start a quote war between Liberals and leftards on the benefits of multiculturalism, I can assure you - the Libs will win hands down.

I’ll bet I can even find the most effusive, gushing, saccarine motherhood statements on our great immigrant nation from none other than Mr Abbott himself.

Shall we wait until we see the whites of their eyes?

Bring it on, leftards.

No need to be heroic, Karnal.

Hunt says Coalition accepts IPCC findings

"What does this mean? It means that we need to do practical things that actually reduce emissions."

Sorry about that. No need to bring Mr Abbott’s thoughts into this. He was in opposition, after all. He wasn’t in posession of all the facts.

STOP THE BOATS.

Mr Hockey said: "My roots lie in that part of the world. My
grandfather, Joseph Hokeidonian, an Armenian, was sent by the Catholic
Church in Jerusalem to go to Palestine as a spy."

Grandfather Hokeidonian appears to have performed his duties well,
though his war service cost him an eye. After hostilities ended he
became deputy town clerk of Beersheba and helped to rebuild the city.

Mr Hockey's father, Richard, was born in Bethlehem in 1927. But Joseph
disappeared afterwards. He was apparently hit by a car in Egypt.

After serving in the British Army in World War II, Richard migrated to
Australia in 1948, where he married an Australian, Beverley, and had
four children, the youngest, Joseph, born in 1965.

So Hockey had a Palestinian father and grandmother, and a Syrian-Armenian grandfather?

Quote:
this laconic hulk of a man, who was fathered by a Palestinian orphan...Hockey’s dad, Richard, was born a Catholic Palestinian in Bethlehem. Yet he never touched his own father’s flesh. There is but one grainy photo that remains of Joseph Hokeidunian. What we know is that he was an Armenian trader and landowner based in Syria.

Abbott should be congratulated for bringing Palestinian Arabs into his ministry.
