The poll attached to this topic is bloody hilarious lol Smiley

Conclusion?

FD is a nutter who is just filled with hate.

Why is it that some polls don't prove anything new?

A poll is not necessarily 'authoritative'.

The results of a poll are only [ever], a reflection of the opinions of those who participated in it.

Oi Yadda my dear friend!

You're allowed to laugh every now and again .. even on THIS member run forum .. smirk Tongue

Freediver has refused to appoint a new moderator in this moderatorless forum.  Why?

It is obvious he finds it convenient for there to be no moderator.  Without a moderator to control the quality and direction of debate, the place has become a series of petty, squabbling , repetitive threads, in which he and others are allowed to post the most abusive and childish threads and personal attacks, to their heart's content.

I've suggested making me the moderator.   Appears some of the Islamophobes fear that this will stifle their ability to abuse others.  Some just fear that this prevent them being able to abuse each other.

If they are that frightened, then nominate someone else and we can discuss rules.  If the moderator doesn't adhere to the rules, it is just as easy to have them replaced.   The rules should be fair.

I would suggest at a minimum:

No trolling.
Don't make posts that are deliberately inflammatory just to get people riled up. Substance is the key to not being labelled a troll.  Keep on topic.

No Ad hominem attacks
"Play the ball, not the man," As we say downunder. Criticise ideas, not people. Gentle "stirring" is acceptable, "Sledging" not so much. Endless resorting to ad hominem is not.

Restrict the use of excessive foul language.
Although we don't really care if people swear (um, we have been known to swear ourselves now and again), excessive foul language is likely to get moderated, if only because excessive foul language usually indicates that someone is utterly clueless.

Buy a thesaurus instead, and amaze and confound your friends with your new-found 'intellect'! We also require that you leave rough or offensive language out of the post or topic titles. A lot of people read at work, and while foul language "happens", let's try and keep it away from high-visibility areas.

No use of crayon.
We are adults, not in kindergarten.  If you cannot emphasis your point without using coloured letters or making the text bigger to excess and continually, then don't bother posting it.   Bold and italics are usually sufficient.

Those rules won't restrict real debate.  They will though, prevent the useless personal attacks we see continuously.  They will make the place more civilised.

I've put my hand up.  Give me the guernsey for a month and then we'll see if I'm doing a good enough job.   I'll even stop posting, if people would prefer a non-participatory moderator.

Now, Freediver, I've thrown down the gauntlet, will you accept the challenge?   What have you got to lose, except your ability to endlessly abuse people?

Dear Brian,

I, and a few members here, have been posting on the same forums as FD since 2006. I have never seen him abuse anyone and I doubt anyone else can point out where he's been personally abusive to a member.

I have to agree. Calling someone a "spineless apologetic" is not personal abuse. I don't recall any time FD has been personally abusive either.

Still, if he insists on not having a moderator, it wouldn't hurt if he would clamp down a bit on people who are abusive. It happens fairly regularly here.

Nice thread title.  You start of a thread asking to be appointed as a censor, promising to be fair and you start with a mocking and personally challenging title?  Why not neutral language, "Why I wish to be mod" for example?  I am afraid you have shot yourself in the foot at the very first challenge.  This demonstrates the mocking behaviour you will allow, but only from one side of course.

And it matters not if you don't participate, you will still ensure that the only visible viewpoint reflects yours.

You have a forum to mod and manage and you have turned that into a desert and now you want to repeat that success here?

I say no to censors and do not trust those who wish to be censors.  I and many others left Debate and Relate rather than debate under your biased dictatorship.  How many posts in that forum, not counting your own and your idiotic brothers?  Less than 2 a day on average would be fair?

Why is that?

...

I also found this piece particularly amusing...

Now was that the woyal "we" bwian are you suffering from some form of personality disorder or are you talking about you and your socks?
Do you always talk about yourself in the plural?

I admit I engage in that.  You do it and try and claim you're merely engaging in "debate".   Who's the more honest?    Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy

Actually that would count as personal abuse. I have been very careful to direct my criticism at what Brian posted, not at Brian.

You are welcome to report any personal abuse you see here. Send one of the global mods a PM with a link and a quote. The easiest way is to use the quote button and copy and paste it into the PM.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the above poll revealed that FD was a hate filled Mossad agent who was also a Nazi nutter?

Now that would make sense. Not.

I would suggest you're bullshitting, FD.  You refer to me personally as a "spineless apologetic".  If that was directed at what I had written, then you wouldn't have done that.   If you had directed your comment towards what I had written, FD, you'd have said that "you wrote something which was spineless".  "Apologetic" is a personal pronoun.  Therefore, you were attacking me, personally, FD.  If you were honest, you'd have admitted that instead of this dissembling.   Roll Eyes

Your views have nuffin' to do wiv you, just as they have nuffin' to do wiv islam?

Your views are that of a spineless Muslim apologist. In case your views have nothing to do with you, this is in no way a personal criticism and you have not the slightest thing to fear. But if your views are related to you in some way (and who am I to say they are??), then you are a spineless Muslim apologist.

Brain, you are no good at presenting a coherent argument. You couldn't pick your way through a two-move chess problem. Trying to distance  yourself from your own views is just embarrassingly stupid.
